Why do people I have never communicated with here on MD send me a friend request?
Has this happened to others? Why do they think I would approve such a request if I have no clue as to who they are?

You aren't alone, I get friend requests every day, mostly from women in China. I think that the friend request is just a way to try to hook us into emailing them so they can do some kind of scam. Who knows, it may be some Nigerian Prince who wants you to smuggle millions of bucks into your bank account or something....

Actually Touch these were people in my own state, or so the profile says. But why would I want to be friends with someone I've never met (in the forums I mean)?

Signme started a thread, Signme started a thread,

I have no idea, but I have accidentally hit the friend key instead of the favorite key..
Quite embarrassing, and no way to take it back. I even emailed a gal and told her I did it by accident. But it obviously didn't matter.

And another thing, I joined a different site ( late at night ) did a search, put a few on favorites, to email later. And found that putting them on favorites, automatically sends them an email notifying them I did so. So essentially I was doing the same thing.( notifying them they were favorites before first contact ).
As a veteran it just seems weird. But what is done, is done.......

Happens to me almost every day! All I can think of is, they like the picture they see, or else it's like a popularity contest they are trying to win. Like on myspace, they want to get as many people on their friends list as possible. I just "decline" the ones I have not previously corresponded with. It does get annoying lol.

I also hit the friend key instead of the favorite key, so I wrote to that person to explain. It was quite embarrassing.

Because this site makes no sense half the time lol, I get more e-mail from people in canada and from the west coast then anything. I can count on one hand, how much response I have received from women from my own state. I don't even bother with it anymore, I just have fun posting in here.

There's two guys on here that seem to collect female friends.

They always request me, and I always turn them down.

The last few times I got friend request from someone I didn't know, I simply asked why ........Two never responded ( of course ), but one told me, she might be moving back to Michigan and if she did she wanted to contact me.....So I approved her, and never heard from her again..........but no harm, no foul.

What Becky said.

And i think that some people don't realize that many of us here only have people on our friends list that we actually have interacted with in some way. At least my friends are and I love everyone one of them!

Again, Nat!

I also have seen guys with several hundred female friends.

If they talk to me first, I consider it.
Or if we have exchanged banter in the forums for quite awhile.

Sign... I have no idea why people do this.

I just decline them, it's pretty weird if you ask me. If I was out for a drink or a bite to eat and a total stranger walks up and sits down at my table and just sits there and stares at me, I'd be gettin the hell away from them.

I think it's more about the numbers game that they do this rather than anything to do with wanting to be someone's "friend".
