Is there anyone for whom you would sacrifice yourself, or is that a ridiculous question in this day and age?
I'd take a bullet for my sister.
Maybe a few other people...I don't know. But definitely my little sister, I've practically raised her and I'd defend her to the death.
Perhaps this is a morbid question, but think deeply about it anyway. Sometimes the most morbid questions are the most interesting ones.

I was freaked by the movie "Sophie's Choice", so I won't even mention my kids (if I'd have to choose ~shudder~ I take that bullet for both of them)
I would have taken a bullet in a heartbeat for one very special man...~sigh~ I still wish we could have traded places.
I wouldn't take a bullet for anyone in our government or for this country if that meant in Iraq.
But I'm pretty sure I'd wind up taking a bullet for a stranger if it came down to a choice between their life or mine...well unless I knew in advance that they were a horrible, lying scumbag

Don't think you can answer this question, sure you can say I would for this person or that person but until actually faced with it things might change. Some people have the courage and others no matter how hard they try or think they can do it freeze or have a breakdown in the eye of danger

willingly I would give my life for my kids .. on gut instinct or reflex reaction I would defend family and friends and in the heat of a moment I might take one for them too really depends on the situation...I would never want anyone to take one for me tho...

Right off the top 3 nameless people and maybe a couple others.
Speaking of self sacrifice.....
Not to belittle or ignore our soldiers but if you ever get a chance to read a translation of the Spetsnaz after action report from the Beslan massacre, read it. Clearly the operation as a whole was a disaster but the self sacrifice of a few individual soldiers was amazing.
One example that stuck out at me was a soldier who braced himself in a doorway. He withstood several seconds of direct automatic weapons fire as children escaped down a hallway behind him.
Heroism knows no borders.
