I just saw on the news today that in Puerto Rico they found 80 dogs/cats thrown over a bridge, some survived but omg, who would be so cruel. These animals were taken away from their owners, can you even imagine a little child seeing their dog taken from them then finding out it was killed? A company was hired to curb the animal population in this one area, the company that was hired is not owning up to this, but someone did it.

I saw that but the details were foggy. I do not think 80 pets were thrown off a bridge but something happened to the bridge and it collapsed. I could be wrong but thats what I think happened.
Animals are abused everywhere, set on fire, cut, starved and it happens in all areas all over the world, especcially USA where there are so many pets ( as opposed to cultures where people consider dogs and cats dirty and do not have them for pets)
I got my dog from a shelter, best dog I ever had. I'll never ever buy a pet... the shelters have the best pets !!!!!

There's a Satanic group in my town that meets at the playground and kills cats.

I didn't even want to know because when I heard it I started crying. Seriously I can't believe anyone would be that cruel; it makes me sick.

Here is an article I found on it.

Pets Hurled Off Bridge in Puerto Rico

Dead dogs are covered with lime, which was spread by officials, in a bushy area under a bridge in the northern town of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Friday, Oct. 12, 2007. Animal control workers seized dozens of dogs and cats from housing projects in the neighboring town of Barceloneta and hurled them 50 feet (15 meters) from a bridge to their deaths, authorities and witnesses said Friday. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Animal control workers seized dozens of dogs and cats from housing projects in the town of Barceloneta and hurled them from a bridge to their deaths, authorities and witnesses said Friday. Mayor Sol Luis Fontanez blamed a contractor hired to take the animals to a shelter.

"This is an irresponsible, inhumane and shameful act," he told The Associated Press.

Fontanez said the city hired Animal Control Solution to clear three housing projects of pets after warning residents about a no-pet policy. He said the city paid $60 for every animal recovered and another $100 for each trip to a shelter in the San Juan suburb of Carolina.

Raids were conducted on Monday and Wednesday, and residents told TV reporters they saw the animal control workers inject the animals. When they asked what they were giving them, they said they were told it was a sedative for the drive to the shelter.

"They came as if it were a drug raid," said Alma Febus, an animal welfare activist. "They took away dogs, cats and whatever animal they could find. Some pets were taken away in front of children."

But instead of being taken to a shelter, the pets and strays were thrown 50 feet from a bridge in the neighboring town of Vega Baja, according to Fontanez, witnesses and activists, apparently before dawn Tuesday.

"Many were already dead when they threw them, but others were alive," said Jose Manuel Rivera, who lives next to the bridge. "Some of the animals managed to climb to the highway even though they were all battered, but about 50 animals remained there, dead."

Rivera said he alerted officials, who spread lime over the animals' corpses to control the stench.

Animal Control Solution owner Julio Diaz said he went to the bridge when he heard of the allegations, but remains unconvinced that the dead animals are the same ones his company collected.

"We have never thrown animals off any place. We always take them to our local shelter and euthanize them," he said. "They can't prove that they are the same dogs that we picked up."

Fontanez said he would cancel the city's contract with Animal Control Solution and said city lawyers were considering a lawsuit.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has a rule allowing locally owned and operated housing authorities to set pet rules, but it does not grant authority for a blanket ban or mass confiscation, said Brian Sullivan, an HUD spokesman in Washington.

Asked to comment on the reported pet massacre, Sullivan said: "This sickens me if true."

Animal rights activists have long criticized the treatment of pets in Puerto Rico, where there is no pet registration law and little spaying or neutering. Animal shelters are overwhelmed and must kill many of the dogs they receive, according to Victor Collazo, president of the island's Association of Medical Veterinarians.

One organization recruits volunteers to take dogs home with them on commercial flights, and sends between 1,500 and 2,000 dogs a year from Puerto Rico to American shelters.

At least 175 dogs have been rescued in the last couple of years from Yabucoa Beach, which activists nicknamed "Dead Dog Beach" because of the strays that roam the coast and are sometimes found dead of disease, starvation or gunshots. Similar rescue efforts have been undertaken in the Bahamas and elsewhere in the Caribbean.

I just can't believe they hurled them off a bridge... is it illegal to have pets there or something?

wtf ?
no pet policy?

this is insane stuff.

I find it hard to sometimes believe whats written in the newspaper. It just makes no sense so many people would hurl animals off a bridge. They are not telling something in the news... the key of what happened, or the truth.
Would not surprise me if the info we read is not all the way true. BECAUSE IT MAKES NO SENSE.

If we dont take care of God's creatures , who will? I have seen news reports over the years about people convicted of animal cruelty and found the sentences to be much too lenient. You would think with all the evidence linking serial killers , psychopaths and etc to animal abuse it would lead to stiffer penalties.

Give me a chance to sentence one of them.. society would never see hide nor hair of them again.

There is now a $4500 reward on information on who is doing the cat mutilation in San Antonio. So far 6 cats have been found. Shelters are NOT adopting out cats right now until this stops. It's horrible. And these people start with hurting animals and then usually end up hurting or killing other people.

In my opinion, it says alot about a person in how they treat animals. I've rescued several and hope to open a rescue someday for those animals that need love, food and a warm place to stay. I have several animals now, but can't take in anymore. I hate it when I hear of or see animal abuse....it really burns me up!

I’m not buying it. Puerto Rico is NOT a 3rd world country. If there was such an incident there would be live video footage all of the news about this. Until I see some proof I don't think this story should be circulated or givin the credit as the true. The only picture that I have found online (msn) was obviously not a dog thrown off a bridge as early as Oct 12th and it is only 1 CORPS. Where are the other 50 or so covered in lye? The picture could have been taken anywhere in the US to fit the story.

I have to wonder if someone is crying wolf here. I am sure that there is an animal control problem in Puerto Rico - heck, look how small it is. One of the quotes from MSNBC was that "175 dogs have been rescued in the last couple of years from Yabucoa Beach" And? the point is? That many CATS alone have been rescued in 1 year here in Miami - I dont even want to think about how many dogs are rescued, surrendered or just killed in the shelters because they cant be adopted out. 175 dogs over the corse of a few years is no big shock. If you want to see cruelty, go to your local animal shelter and look at the dogs on death row and ask what is the kill number they have so far this year. Add that up with all of the kill shelters in south Florida and you have some disgusting and disturbing numbers.

Peace

speaking of cat mutilations -

I was warned my first week in Florida that I shouldn’t let me cat outta my site - she was an all back polydactyl - apparently the local Sata Marian’s would consider that an especially great animal to sacrifice. I can’t back it up as truth but the same vet told me that local cat rescues are very careful about adopting out black cats due to sickos using them for sacrificial ceremonies.

when are people going to figure out that god doesn’t want blood, martyrs or your pet cat.

I dont know much about the American animal protection agencies , but in England we have the RSPCA,(Royal society for protection of animals)

PDSA (Peoples dispensary for sick animals) and countless charity run organisations for unwanted pets/animals.

Even so, with all this availible, there is still so much cruelty happening in the UK too.

In one of the rescue centres I worked for, we had a box of lab puppies brought in, rescued by a man who heard whimpering coming from a barrel of oil. Some of the pups had ingested too much oil to be saved, but a couple did and went on to be rehomed.

Why oh why do people feel the need to be cruel if they do not want these animals when theres so many organisations out there willing to help??

Its just madness to me.
