pam, it is coffee boiled in a pot and most often has a few egg shells in it to get the grounds to settle.

Yep, Brass, we use to make it that way all the time...
Place a kettle of cold mountain water over your campfire. Throw ground coffee in the pot and bring to a boil. Take it off the fire and crush the shell from one egg and throw it in the pot. (Not only does this settle the grounds, but you'll also get your daily calcium requirement). Now settle back, partner and enjoy the sunrise; wait for the aroma to rustle up the crew. We have to warn ya; it ain't halter broke.

so gray if I show up you got room for me?? I think scrapfuzz like to camp Not to sure about that Lisa. I don't think she has EVER tried.
Better be a coffee maker somewhere in site down there. I PROMISE not to forget it this year LB. I think that was the only thing I did forget though, and thats because I had been using it, and didn't already have it packed.
And bananas. Pam, I was gonna say there will be plenty of fruit, but after reading further... uhh...

Cowboy coffee is made over an open fire, the grounds are boiled for 8 minutes 30 seconds, no more-no less. After the boiling process, two methods can be used to tame the loose grounds, both result in a robust, slightly smokey flavor. 1. 2 egg whites can be added to round up those critters. 2. A ten minute settling works too. Better for those with patience, I reckon.
Save the coffee filters for t.p.

I have had to do that a few times at home when I ran out of filters. I didn't know about the egg, or shells.

The egg shells do nothing, i ve found, and just add an annoying crunch. The egg whites catch the "floaters" well. Mister Know-it-all has spoken! heh..

I have a little chocolate dipper warmer, too, sign. I didn't do the fountain, b/c the chocolate wasn't thick enough. I didn't want it all syrupy, and here I am going off on a tangent about chocolate in a camping thread. And I can't do cowboy coffee. I can't chance the hair it might put on my chest.
