Those of you that know me well have come to realize that I am a self confessed American Idol Junkie. Season Seven's two night season premiere begins tomorrow at 8pm/7pm C I know that last years Idol lost some of its spark and Some of Idols alumni have had their struggles. Rueben, Taylor, and my fave Bo Bice were dropped by their record labels.Jordin and Blake have had lukewarm record sales so far. Others have done incredibly well. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken, and Fantasia. Kelly Pickler and Bucky Covington have even made a name for themselves.
For me its simply unconditional love no matter what happens. I simply cannot get enough. This year the show will focus more on the contestants then the celebrity mentors. They will be allowed to play instruments when we get to the finals. We will of course still be subjected to the talentless and painful delusional singers during the auditions. I am hoping that Hollywood week will not be compressed into small snippets like it was last year. Simon and Paula have both said that there are some incredible standouts this year.
Even if you are not a fan of the show, its never to late to partake in my madness.
So stop into this thread often and lets discuss the good , the bad , and the very bad singers that will grace our TV Screens over the next five months .
Dovetreasures obsessed fan rules. 1. Do not call me during the show( I just cant miss a single second) 2. Vote, Vote , Vote and Vote some more. 3. Visit this site daily...http://www.americanidol.com/ 4. Be sure to download the great music coming our way on the American Idol website 5. Buy your tickets to see the ten finalists when they go on tour this summer.
I am sooooo excited I will surely not sleep tonight.

I lost any and all respect for this show a couple of seasons ago. I think it's rigged, and votes are fixed. How Taylor what's his name could beat out Chris Daughtry and many others far more talented than he will ever be is beyond me. Fantasia? What has she done??? Kelly yes, Daughtry yes, even Carrie Underwood yes. But out of those 3 only one won and she deserved it.
And I'm getting a little suspicious of the so called "candidates" that show up to audition. Some of them are so utterly ridiculous there isn't any way anyone can convince me this isn't set-up for viewer votes.
With all that said, two for Idol from me.

Sweet Red shame on me for forgetting Elliot Yamin he is indeed doing well.
KAO to answer your question about Fantasia...She is a multible Grammy Award nominated singer, and a award winning Broadway actress for "The color purple" Her first Album was certified double platinum and received four Grammy nominations. Her second album, was certified gold, received three Grammy nominations and featured the 8-week #1 Billboard Hot R&B hit "When I See U." When Fantasia released her debut single, I Believe, which later debuted at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100. This number-one debut made Fantasia the first artist in history to achieve this with a first single. She also won three Billboard Awards for the single.played herself in a Lifetime Television film based on her autobiography Life Is Not a Fairy Tale. The film was directed by Debbie Allen and debuted on the women’s cable network on Saturday, August 19, 2006 . The movie received nineteen million viewers throughout its debut weekend. Life Is Not a Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story has also become Lifetime's second most viewed program of all time. I could go on but I think I anwered your question.
You are right that a great deal of what we see on American Idol is for production value. The producers love to show us the worse of the worse. Some people know they have no chance in hell making it to Hollywood but they do get their fleeting moment of fame for being outrageous. Then there are those who really think they have what it takes and are delusional.
When Taylor won in Season five his fans were a force to be reckoned with. The Soul Patrol were determined to help Taylor win. ( I was among them) I however was shocked when Chris was voted off.( I adore him too) Though many will yell this was rigged I still believe that voters thought Chris was safe and this created a false sense of security. It seems like the folks who call foul on the outcomes are the ones who do not vote. I wonder who this years Sanjaya will be?
Just a footnote Katherine McPhee was dropped by her label as well.

I don't like the tryout part so much. But I love music and love listening to good music. Clarkson, Bice, Underwood and Daughtry rock.
I don't remember who all was in the season with Fantasia, but she annoyed me. She may have had a better voice than Diana, but Diana is on Broadway, from what I have read.

So what are you guilty of? That ain't what a junkie means over here in the UK...
By the way, ours is called Pop Idol, and Simon was just as popular in Britain...
When can we have him back??

Heheh yeah I saw the X Factor last week... been some changes in the format though. Pop Idol was more equivalent to the current American Idol...
On X Factor I saw some Geordies who wanted to bash the jury coz their daughter couldn't sing heheheh. They had to call security to escort them off... it was like Springer.
The daughter was a load of grief she was too dire for her manager even... I mean, a race to the bottom, whose idea was that? The Captain of the Titanic??
VERY entertaining though

Yes Motown, Pop Idol was the original UK show. American Idol is being shown in the UK now too, but a new format show has replaced Pop Idol, the X Factor was it called?
There are now no minimum standards or early selection procedures isn't that right Blondi? One of the jurors is Danni Minogue HOT-OR-WOT , Kyle Minogue's sister...

Yes indeed Our Idol got its start from POP IDOL and the franchise has spread all over the world. There were dips in the ratings here last year , but the show is still wildly popular and dominates the airwaves during its run. I would love to see the X factor come our way too.
Diana Degarmo was the second place winner behind Fantasia. She missed winning by 2% of the vote. From 2006-2007, DeGarmo starred in the Broadway musical Hairspray, playing Penny Pingleton. I think she has a lovely voice.
American Idols debut is just hours away now. Its going to be a wild ride.

that was our best winner .. man that girl has pipes .. like I have never heard before .. anywhere .. I Listen in awe ... Bleeding Love
She is Simons Baby girl and appeared on American Idol last year
Trying hard not to hear but they talk so loud Their piercing sounds fill my ears try to fill me with doubt Yet I know that their goal is to keep me from falling But nothing’s greater than the risk that comes with your embrace And in this world of loneliness I see your face Yet everyone around me thinks that I’m going crazy Maybe maybe
And it’s draining all of me Though they find it hard to believe I’ll be wearing these scars for everyone to see
and I keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love Keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love Keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love You cut me open and I Keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding love

That ROOOXX Blondi !
And Dove, quite often the "runners up" do as well if not better than the winners...
there is often tactical voting...
and in the UK, the London switchboard swung a final. Yorkshire people wanted to vote for Gareth Gates and couldn't get through...
But he went on to be a great success, touring Europe etc.
