The easy way or the right way

Looking into the future I see alot of change coming about. I have a gas guzzling SUV. I would like to have my truck and have the gas too but know I can't afford both and trying to be enviromentally friendly my self. So, I am looking into a diesel engine truck which with Bio diesel is more enviromentally friendly and uses less fuel. Yet, the price of a new truck or even used and the fuel far out weigh the price of the one I have and the gas I buy. I'm paying 3.13 now for gas and diesel is 3.50.
How can we juggle this scenario. Damned if we do and damned if we don't. Do you do what's right or what's easy. Why aren't there more incentive programs when the government knows that this change has to take place for everyone no matter which finacial class you fall into?
Maybe a rebate check for having your auto converted into something more enviromentally friendly. I could live with putting a diesel engine in my truck or put on a gizmo that would allow me to burn ethanol. I'd have the best of both worlds. Especially if I could be reimbursed even half the amount.
I know we're not allowed to have our cake and eat it too, but why not?

I have a '93 Ford Aerostar for times when I don't need my work truck and want to conserve fuel, but I sure love the 460 in my '85 F250 4x4 work truck and the zero payments on both vehicles

I hear ya, Eq-
My truck doesn't get good mileage in town, but then...I don't really go anywhere. I SHOULD trade it for a more economical vehicle, but this winter made me really appreciate it.

you can sell trade your vehicle for a smaller one but no matter what you try to save the gas is still going to go up more so it evens out

Because we had a closed door process, which headed by a former oil executive (Cheney), for the development of a new energy policy. A revamp of the Cheney energy package was passed by the Congress late last year and is still in the rulemaking and implementation process, so we will probably see incremental improvements in 2008.

That said, there are packages you can buy to convert your SUV to biodiesel.

If you go with some kind of hybrid, you might get a tax break.

A lot of it isn't even technological, or at least not that kind of technology...those of us who work with computers are telecommuting more and more. I'm trying to find 'like-minded people' (no, it's not like THAT!) who'd like to do 'shared shopping' - combined trips to places like Costco, buying in bulk and splitting the cost and dividing the spoils so we can end up with sizes we might reasonably use within our lifetimes.

I've gotten MUCH better than I used to be about planning what I do to minimize driving, and I see the results in the number of times I refuel in a month. I drive a 6-cylinder car and average about 25 MPG, but my big savings really are from minimizing use.

btw...bio diesel is not all that great...you could wear out an expensive diesel engine and clog your injectors in a really short time...

if you doubt this... ask yourself why big trucking companies tell their drivers where to fuel up..and where not to...

A close friend's relative found out that her hybrid is not designed right for snow. When you slow down the engine shuts down and the wheels lock up and cause spin outs.

Hey, where I live there are still places where you can tie your horse out front and go inside...just better not do it in the summertime unless there's shade and water for the horse.

in the late 1800's people were worried about the transportation crisis... if something didn't change people were going to be waist deep in Horse manure from all the horses...

and poof.. Automobiles came along.... so hopefully technology will have a new break through....
