Have you ever had a headache so bad, you thought it was going to be the end of you? I am having one right now.

I don't know if the creator thought it would be funny to put pain receptors in our veins, head, noggen or brain....but I could have done without.

I wonder if it is some sort of lesson, that we are to stop worrying so much, stressing so much, staying up till the wee hours, drinking to much, smoking to much and even staring at computer screens way to much?

I have taken aspirin, tylenol and put a hot and a cold rag on my head. Nothing. The hammering in my head continues. Sad part is....I didn't do anything to deserve it!!!! Bah...

Cures anyone? I know, this is supossed to go uner the Health section, but darn, hardly anyone ever goes in there......

Yah, I'm just whining. You can talk about what you want....just gimme a quick fix.

A dark, quiet room and some sleep. It should be better by morning.

The computer's glare won't help it.

Are you nauseated? Is light or sound bothering you? When I have migraines, I can't be on the computer at all... Fever? Stiff neck? Weakness in an arm, facial drooping, Seeing anything funny, ie flashes of light, loss of vision, reduced visual field, smelling strange odors???

Excedren Migraine and coffee often help, if you had lidocaine you could drip it up your nose into your sinus'...it works... I have "good" drugs that I would share with you if I could. If this is the first time that this has happened, you might want to get checked out.

I have suffered from migraines for 45 years.. they are brutal.. caffiene helps..try tieing a cloth belt around your forhead for about 5 minutes as tight as you can stand it.. then take it off.. one of my docs says this works like accupressure.. It worked for some of my migraines.

the only nuclear headache I had was from a tumor..
I kinda doubt thats your problem hon..

thanks all. I tried the coffee. It helped a lilttle. Still pounding though. I see some black spots every now and then, guess it's me staring at this thing trying to find a cure...lol. I should get off of here....thanks again for all the advice.

Lord I hope its not a tumor....didn't Arnold say something like that in one of his movies? It is playing in my head with a german accent... "it's not a tumor"...wierd

hon.. my intention was not to scare you. I'm fairly sure you have a migraine.. 'specially if you are seeing black spots.. those were always a part of the aura when I had them.

I used to get really bad headaches. I finally went to a neurologist. That was after I had a headache that lasted for several weeks. She put me on the antidepressant elavil. Not for depression but because it would help keep the headaches away. Since then I rarely have headaches. When I do, they're bad and I take tylenol and sleep it off.

Cluster migraine. It might be best to go to an emergency room while you are having one so they can see what is going on.
Have someone drive you though.

I've had headaches, I assume not as bad as you are describing so in turn I have to ask. How in the world can you stay online typing and staring at your screen if you hurt that bad? Mine usually come from working on my computer.

The headache you are having could be a number of different types. You really need to see a doctor to determine what type/s it is. Knowing what type of headache you are having will really help with the treatment plan.

Here is some general information on headaches...

Mayo Clinic on headaches

I wrote up a small list of headache helps for another MD member that I use. I hope you don't mind me sharing it with you. These tips help more for sinus headaches but possibly could help you also. (I hope they do)

1. After a shower/bath, always blow your nose. Mucus is loosened and easier to expel.
2. Use a humidifier if the humidity is low. Use a dehumidifier if it is too high. (Humidity should be about 40% or so)
3. Get a neti pot (Walgreens' has them) to do good nasal washing. You will need to make up your own saline solution or you can buy prepackaged mix at a drugstore. It rinses out pollen and pollutes.
4. Get Ocean nose spray...it is a saline solution you squirt up your nose. You can carry it in your purse, backpack, briefcase. ALWAYS have it on hand.
5. Sudifed is the drug of choice for me as I can use it during the day. Actifed has an antihistamine that can make you drowsy.
6. Take claritin or another antihistamine when symptons are bad. I find if I use antihistamines indiscriminately...they don't work when I need them to work. Some antihistamines work better for some people than others. You need to find out which one works for YOU.
7. Eat a well balanced diet. Take supplements if you need them.
8. Sinus headaches are a b*tch! Take sudifed and advil (generic of course). If that doesn't help, try a heating pad or ice on the area that is in pain. Ice doesn't do a thing for me but may help you.
9. J's Nose drops are available online or at your local health food store. Try Whole Foods or Sun Harvest. I do believe they carry the drops.
10. Xylitol is making news. Some new nose drops contant xylitol and is supposed to help prevent pollen/pollutes from entering the nasal membrane.

There are many other things you can try but PLEASE remember you should see a doctor to determine the cause and type/s of headache you have.

Hopefully this will help you out. Please remember...I'm not a doctor. I'm not dispensing medical advise! These are things that I have used and have worked for me. You accept all responsibility for your own health! Good luck!

I've found, when I have a sinus headache:
Warm wet cloth repeatedly over bridge of nose.
Don't FORCE blowing of your nose...it doesn't help. Just blow.
Eat chinese mustard or horseradish, wasabi...
