Both interesting.

We have dead president cause they were at one time leaders of our great nation.
Forgive my lack of candianian history, but did the queen ever rule over candian?
If not hence my confusion.

I think Maggie was typing in the third person when she was addressing me a few pages back. I know, I had to read it twice myself.

~psssttt~ Burns...Canada is really split in two. Quebec is run by France and the rest of Canada is run by England. Stephen Harper is just a figurehead...and I don't believe his picture is on any of their money.

Heheh Canadian trivia... The Queen of the United Kingdom is also Queen of the Commonwealth including Canada and Quebec - for as long as the Quebec separatists wish to remain in Canada. Quebec's independence has been avoided since the 70s because Canada has primarily had French (-speaking) Canadian Prime Ministers (elected by the Canadian parliament).

So Canada is not "ruled" by either the UK or France.

Before the American Revolution, British General Wolf defeated France in Quebec and united the colony under the British colonies in North America.

When Britain proved unable to suppress the American revolution in an 8 year long war, parliament agreed to evacuate the large British armies still occupying the area around New York and other areas in return for Washington's recognition of Canada. Hundreds of thousands of American Loyalists then moved to Nova Scotia and along with the British-occupied territory Quebec became the new "Canadians."

After the US Civil War, a large number of Southern families also fled to Canada and settled in areas in and around Quebec. French speakers felt threatened by this intrusion and increased their birth rate to outpace the Southerners. Many places still have Southern names but French inhabitants.

The loss of the American colonies meant that no British Monarch ever tried to interfere with the political or economic development of any British colonies again.

The British Queen has no political powers other than her personal influence on Commonwealth populations. She don't rule sh*t, not since the American Revolution.

Some more fun information about Canada:

"Preserving Canada's national Igloo... Congratulations Canada for becoming part of North America. The King of Canada will be touring Arkansas next month to see the Governor Mike Huckabee;"

>CANADA'S NATIONAL IGLOO<

Quiz: so where's the Queen's head on that currency again?

LOL I just finished reading some holiday brochures about North America and they were full of that history stuff...

To be honest, I don't know myself where the Queen's head is displayed on Canadian currency, but I would imagine it would be on coins and maybe a couple of notes. One of the posters wrote it's on a twenty... Haven't been to Canada but would love to go on a tour.

The Arkansas interviews in the link were quite unfair, the people interviewed were uncertain about what they were being told, but were being polite. I would have swallowed the one about the ice sculpture if he hadn't said it was Canada's 'Capitol building.' One or two didn't buy it anyway .

It was all in good fun though, and who says Canadians don't have a GSOH heheh !

Heheh right Gray, there's always one around when you need them

Mike Huckabee seems like an OK guy, he's been around for some time right?

Weren't the Clintons installed as Governor and first lady in Arkansas too? That would be going back to the seventies I guess?

CPU, Yes Mike Huckabee served as Gov. for 3 terms, max allowed by Ar. laws, here in Arkansas and was very well liked and respected. Bill Clinton was also was Gov. here for 3 terms although his were not consecutive. I at one time worked for Bill and do not have many nice things that I can or will say about him so I usually just keep quiet.

I got this in my email a looooooooooong time ago (5 years, as a matter of fact) and I've been hanging on to it for just such an occasion.

On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to the United States of America.

We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry.

I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron. He is a moron, but it wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact that he's a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America. After all, it's not like you actually elected him.

I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.

I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours.

I'm sorry we burnt down your White House during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's very nice.

I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer but we feel your pain.

I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you want to have your friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.

And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way which is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this.

We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with.

NIce one EF, I take it you're Canadian? LOL Hell yeah, the Nova Scotia highlanders were the last people to fight a war on US soil, innit? I mean, apart from the Canadian National Ice Hockey team anyhow... but Canada does have an advantage in ice hockey, a lot more ice up there innit? Hey I bet Canada sank the Titanic too
