the forums are naturally more comfortable for me because there are the tools to navigate the forums and they are designed for give and take, point and counter point and etc., but I'm guessing the benefit of Blogs is personal exposure is larger but for more limited periods of time.

To me the the question of forums or blogs depends on your goal as the reader, and the writer.
For myself, you can learn about people through forums, but it can take awhile to get an accurate picutre. Little snippets here & there on various topics is kind of like doing a jigsaw puzzle, but only getting handed a piece here and there.
If you want to learn about someone read their blogs. It gives the writer's complete thought on a topic or scenario.
Same applies to someone trying to get their point across. If you just want to chime in on a topic for discussions sake, then forums are perfect. However, if you really want to get on your soap box - blog about it.
