Do you know anyone like this in your life (either online life or real world)? Someone who craves attention so much, that they threaten to do all kinds of terrible things (anything from hurting themselves to running away from home and just disappearing)?

Once they do it over, and over, and over again......doesnt it start to lose its effect? Do you start to laugh at their ill advised attempts to get attention?

Do they become repulsive attention craving liars in your eyes? Or just something else that makes an annoying noise in the world?

Or do you simply pity them?

Annoying, then again if it is family, I call them on it! I have too.

the saddest part of it is the self denial... they don't see the patterns they create, or the destruction they sow in to their lives....

I've always referred to these people as drama queens (regardless of gender).
I usually tell them to go away.
When they say things like "You'll miss me when I'm gone." I suggest they give me a chance to start practicing.

I guess for me, I start to ignore them more. So the cry for attention, actually works backwards. I cant reward that type of behavior.

Once it is rewarded, it becomes the norm. Like pavlov's dog......salivating at the bell......they learn, "if I do this, I get stroked".

ok, not that I reward this behavior, but I've often wondered, what starts this insanity in people? did their parents ignore them unless they messed up? was one of their parents a drama seeker?

I know, its a sickness, kind of like the fascination with car wrecks...

Speaking as a wolf, I've had my name cried out more than a few times. Perhaps in a different context. When the urge strikes to lash out at the alpha arsehole for disassociative behavior, I've found out it's best to hang on like a bad case of mange and re-affirm the very reason they wanted to leave. But what do I know? My main thing is wagging tail and sniffing crotch.

Naw-I would never laugh at them.
Could be any number of things that cause them to do it.

And some may be important.

Yes I do know some people like that....... it is as if they are stuck in a mental rut. no matter how much you try to inspire them and give them positive good caring advise they seem to think that there is nothing better to look forward to in the world. They think that their best time in life has come and gone and that it's always going to be downhill from there.

They think that God or destiny will not permit them to change. They are stubborn and too proud to think otherwise.

Life isn't that way and people need to seek mentors (even as adults). We must set goals and not be shy or give up in asking people for advice. Maybe spiritual guidance. We also must be prepared to "Let go" of the past and the present to move.

Don't be scared.

Speaking of asking for help ..... my Niece just called me minutes ago while I was typing this up and she drove 350 miles here to Seattle to have her uncle take her around Seattle for a break. I better get to a cash machine so that I can take her out to have some fun. Maybe I'll take her to the islands. I love it when family visits.

See you all for now, I hope what I mentioned above is good advise.

Well yes, I have a little person who behaves exactly like that. He is very close to me and very near and dear. Actually, he's not exactly a person.

Actually, he's not exactly little either.
