YB - my mom, much as I loved her, was a neurotic alcoholic, and I was six years old when I decided that my dad would be a better role model. It's not all programmed in, we make our own choices there. My mom's mom was my other role model - a woman who raised 7 kids during the depression when she was widowed. Both were tough as leather, honest, loving and totally dependable. Those are qualities I value, in both men and women, and qualities that I've tried to develop in myself. It's not about who's stronger, who's smarter or anything like that, and the most important things aren't about 'manliness' and 'femininity'.

Of course, that's JMHO as usual, it works for me anyway.

I'm all for the good that the women's civil rights movement has done for women in the workplace, much the same as I am for minority races.

The problem is the double standards these special interest groups are vying for that go well beyond equal pay for equal performance.

Feminists want to feminise society. Minority races, sexual orientation groups and alternate religious groups want society to fully embrace their culture and beliefs while trying to fully eliminate the culture and religious beliefs this country was built on.

I think it refers to the purportedly feminine 'shopping gene.' Actually I tend to think of it that way myself...bargain hunting is still the thrill of the chase. I soooo love it when I can find exactly what I wanted, but at 75% off.

In the work place your right, male and female isn't the main thing. Who I sleep with better be a lot softer than me and fully embrace all that it is to be a real lady and a full grown woman, because anything else completely grosses me out.

The more feminized society gets, the less dresses I see in the same way that insurance companies have managed to turn diving boards into things of the past. I'm sorry, but I really like dresses and diving boards a lot.

Do you want to know the worst thing? The feminization of our government and military has lead to us not being able to win wars the way we are completely capable of because we're too against collateral damage.

Now D, give your knees a break and just let it out!

Feminists want to feminise society. Minority races, sexual orientation groups and alternate religious groups want society to fully embrace their culture and beliefs while trying to fully eliminate the culture and religious beliefs this country was built on.

Well, first let's establish the religious beliefs this country was built on - deism. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and Thomas Paine of Common Sense fame...all deists. While most of the colonial documents cited God, please note that our constitution does not mention God once. This was to protect the concept of freedom of religion, which was the primary religious belief this country was built on - that no religion should take precedence over another, and no religion would ever be established as a 'national religion.'

Personally, speaking as a feminist, in no way, shape or form would I want to see men emasculated - I'm a woman and happy to be one. I conceived easily and birthed easily, that's how I know I'm a woman However I don't cry easily, I've been known to kick butt pretty damned well and if someone yells at me, they're gonna get it back in spades, ditto profanity and obscenities. Normally I'm a civilized human being, but I did my basic training on the NYC subways and I learned it well. I do believe that people who come to this country should learn English and I'd like it to be established as the language of the land officially. I don't believe this is or should be considered a 'christian country'. I fully believe in religious freedom and won't sacrifice it without a fight, or any other freedom that we currently enjoy.

edited to add (sorry this turned out so long)

I'd wear dresses if I felt I looked better in them than jeans, but I don't, so jeans it is (that danged female vanity). Now diving boards...if you're ever in PHX, let me know - got one in my back yard, with a nice deep pool under it. Never a problem with the insurance, but it's not a high dive board either.

uh huh

So Heaven where was it that you got that deal?

Did I ever mention to you about that book on "The Women's History of the World"? ..Section in it that goes on to talk about how women actually propelled the survival of our species because we went shopping. Yah..seriously!! Men weren't that successful hunting (who knew?) to be able to keep a tribe fed so women gathered berries and roots etc and brought those home. Course they had to devise a way to "carry" those food stuffs home so..

but don't tell YouBetcha..

Nice try, but you forgot about the Declaration of Independence. Religious freedom is to allow each person the ability to worship and serve God as they see fit, not to create a government free from the influence of the founding religion, as so many proport.

The original company was bought out back in 2000. Fortunately one of the things they bought it for was the computer system...which left me sitting pretty since I was one of the few people who really knew it well...

And milennia before Christ was born, there were women as well as men ruling in Egypt, one of the greatest empires that's existed on this planet. They had some odd customs - did you know that sexual activity between unmarried partners was normal, but once they married, infidelity was a really serious offense. They chose their own partners, both men and women, highly unusual back then - no arranged marriages as was customary elsewhere. Women could own property as well as men, also unusual since women were considered property in most cultures, no matter how much lip service was paid to their value (pearls above price?). I still wonder how a civilization like that developed so differently from all around them. To me, that's a bigger mystery than the pyramids.

Religious freedom is to allow each person the ability to worship and serve God as they see fit, not to create a government free from the influence of the founding religion, as so many proport

Huh? Have you ever read the first amendment? Try it sometime.

ok - here it is:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Does that state clearly enough that the government CANNOT be associated with any one religion? How would that work anyway - you have the 'company store' reliion and the 'other' religions? Please, just think about what kind of 'freedom' that would provide...

NawtiKitty I am not the redneck guy, k? I provided a link from the internet by a self professed feminist that shows her thinking that we have seen put in action by more than just her for the past 40+ years.

I'm also not the guy saying women are inferior. EQUAL VALUE is what I have said. I LIKE WOMEN. I like women that have guts but are still capable of wimping out in traditional female ways, such as with spiders, snakes and rodents in the house. I like women that can change their oil or own tire or maybe even wrench up on the engine and get dirty grease on their face and blouse, push that lawn mower up the hill, drag the dumpster out to the street, split and haul the wood and etc., as long as they also feel completely comfortable in a dress and looking and acting like a lady that knows a heck of a lot more about makeup and feminine stuff than I do. Remember, this is a spring board thread off of the Deal Breaker thread. Women can do whatever they want. I'm just talking about what I want in a woman. Hey why don't we hunt together, build baskets and pick fruit together and do it all naked? Now I could go for that

or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
If you want to know what they meant, why not look at what THEY put in place that people have been trying to eliminate, which is what is found in the Declaration of Independence as well as the Constitution, the Bible to swear on and the inscriptions concerning God in our courts and many other things. This isn't supposed to be a society free from religion, it is supposed to be a society free to choose how to practice the religion the country was founded on.
