Three days of nickle and diming every penny I could find to itemize, and it worked out that I was better off taking the standard deduction. 
NEXT year I'm going to find myself an accountant who has no compunction about "padding" and dreaming up esoteric deductions -- my problem is I'm too friggin honest.
I almost died when I wrote out that check today...I could have hired someone to finish my kitchen and make this house "civilized". I thought normal Americans were expected to have kitchens. And I don't get a cent of the "stimulus" money, either, which would have been nice to help pay my tax bill. Something's very screwy with our tax system and/or economy, methinks. If I had to pay rent, my taxes would have been the same -- and I would have probably frozen or starved to death. Where would Uncle Sam be then?
Enough. I'm sipping on Mango Cooler right now and have a frozen pizza in the toaster oven (well half at a time -- a whole one doesn't fit, lol ... what a luxury it'll be to have a REAL ove. Maybe next year ~sigh~ And yeh, maybe I shouldn't have gone to the Cayman Islands...but oh well )

I went to the irs website and used one of the free efiling programs. Got the refund and spent most of it on plane tickets for the MD campout in May. 
Edited to add: But I could have done paper and pencil in 10 minutes and took me an hour to enter everything on the computer!
