I was just 10 years old when my father passed. I do remember spending a lot of time around him though and learned somethings that ended up being hobbies or interest for me later on in life: Gardening - he grew roses and all 6 of us kids were expected to work in the yard. I hated it. But 20 years later I found myself building a Japanese style garden (carving stone lanterns and all). He had a workshop down in the basement...I loved watching him build stuff...I couldn't hammer a nail straight. Now I have a well equiped workshop of my own and have a blast tinkering in it. I also remember sitting on his lap Sunday afternoons after church listening to classical music. Still love listening to it. So...how about you? Did you inherit a hobby or interest from a parent or grandparent?

Makya, photography is cool. I did a lot of B&W photography in the 70's and 80's. Loved working in the darkroom. It's a great hobby, glad you inherited it Becky, great that you are passing on to your kids. I really enjoy helping my sons build things in my workshop. One son actually payed attention and totally redid his apartment last summer. I was so proud!

the interests i have now, are the things I did as a child. such as gardening with my grandmother and watching her sew. The same is said for growing up around a farm and taking a special interest in having my own hobby farm. for me its comfort with what i grew up with.

My Grandma gave me my interests in crafting and cooking. I was always over there helping her make candy and trying out all sorts of new craft ideas.

Love of history and politics from my father and love of my heritage from both.
Otherwise they don't share most of my interests.

An "artistic/creative" bent from both parents, mechanical ability from my dad ...and possibly an "ear" (not talent) for music from my mom.
The rest -- thirst for knowledge, confidence to tackle just about anything, an extremely wide-spectrum of interests and abilities, and a sense of justice -- wasn't inheirited, but instilled.
LOL, but I don't think that's what you meant by "inheirited"
OK, I continue the tradition of "presentation" when I cook and set the table (among many other things).
And I'm a "fixer", just like my dad (both parents, actually).
Life would be a whole lot simpler, though, if I'd have just learned to hire someone to get 'er done NOW.

From my dad.....I inherited his love of outdoors...and how to build things. He was creative and outside the box thinker which I also inherited. But the thing I got most from him was his love of life, his forgiving nature, and his huge heart.

Music, both the love of it and some minor talent in singing from my mother's family (though I am not as talented as some of my relatives). My father was a very good card player, which is also something that I enjoy doing (though again, I'm not as good at it, as he was).

Interests? My father was quite mechanical (tool design engineer) and I have always enjoyed tinkering. If it's broken, I will fix it and rethink whatever flaws the item might have had so that it doesn't break again. Other than that, it might have been my father's love of wetting a line and his love for getting away from the city for relaxation. Can't say that I inhereted anything from my mother except her good looks

...Most of my family was/is in construction of some sort and I was "farmed" out to all and learned all of the trades. My Dad could seemingly fix or build anything and I can and have as well, while I was a contractor for a good many years to support another hobby, that became a full time occupation that I inherited from my Grandmother.
...Grandma cooked on a wood stove, had a huge garden and all kinds of farm critters, which became a huge influence on my love of animals and growing things; whereas my Grandfather could spend hours walking in the woods with nature and remains as one of my most favorite liesure activities.
Nice thread Bacon.

Drawing and art from my mom and her aunts, reading from both sides of the family, and collecting which is directly from my mom! (After she passed away, we had a yard sale. She had 70 some pairs of shoes, over a dozen the same style and color! LOL) I get my packrat tendencies from her.

My Dad was the sort that would look at a thing he wanted to make and say "How hard can that be?" and persevere until he had mastered it. I never have come close to his level of accomplishment (becoming a self-taught mechanic, electrician, plumber, house builder) but now and then I feel he might have chuckled at some of the things I managed to "figure out".
