[/QUOTE]This is the man who today confessed that he imprisoned his daughter in an underground chamber for 24 years and fathered her seven children.
Elisabeth Fritzl, 42, was raped repeatedly since being lured into the dungeon built below the family home in a small Austrian town. Police said she had been "broken" by the experience.
Josef Fritzl, 73, admitted to police that all the children were his.
Three of them - Kerstin, 19, Stefan, 18, and Felix, five - were held captive with their mother in a series of windowless rooms and never saw the sunlight until they were freed on Saturday.
Incredibly, three others, Alexander, 12, Monika, 14, and Lisa, 16, were raised in the home by Fritzl and his wife. They were adopted by the couple and went to school, leading apparently normal lives.
The other child, a twin, died shortly after birth and the body burned by Fritzl in a boiler. Detectives today revealed details of the complex of rooms where Elisabeth was held since August 1984.
The three children kept prisoner with her were born there and are thought to have spent their entire lives underground.
Franz Polzer, head of the criminal investigations unit in the province of Lower Austria, said: "He has now said that he locked up his daughter for 24 years and that he alone fathered her seven children and that he locked them up in the cellar."
The case echoes that of Natascha Kampusch who was kept in a cellar by a paedophile in Vienna for eight years from the age of 10 until she escaped last year.
Police are now trying to discover how Fritzl managed to keep his daughter as a sex slave without the apparent knowledge of his 60-year-old wife Rosemarie at the three-storey house in Amstetten, 80 miles west of Vienna.
Elisabeth was this afternoon said to be suffering from a serious physical condition which was deteriorating[QUOTE].

I would honestly have to say that while I find this story very bizzare, I am not shocked by it. The world is in such a state right now where not much shocks me any more.

I believe she did know. Where else did she think these children she was adopting were coming from? Was this basement sound proof? If not, why did she never hear her daughter's cries for help? She never heard the babies cry? When her daughter initially disappeared, wht did she think happen.
It just doesn't make sense that she wouldn't know.

I'm not shocked because this is stuff that has been going on for a long time. The difference is we now have internet and 24 hour news. There was a time when tv went off and we didnt have access to things all over the world instantaniously.

Its not that I, personally, don't feel disgusted by this story. Anyone in their right mind would find this totally disturbing.
At the same time, as SilverTongue said, with all that I have access to see and hear now
Children shooting up entire schools
People killing their parents for money
Women killing their children to be with some man
Criminals suing victims of their crime because they got hurt in the process
As I said, it doesn't surprise me. I am not numb to it, because I feel for the victims of these ridiculous atrocities. But, still am not shocked by it.
The world has become proposterously sick and twisted. I recognize the reality of that.

Exactly..... you are constantly bombarded with these images of doom and destruction and you become somewhat numb. This doesnt mean you dont care it just means that you are over loaded with this stuff. Actually you have to be careful that you dont become jaded and paranoid.
