Another thread here has caused me to ponder all of the things I see common place nowadays, that were taboo years ago. This world has become a*s backwards. Can you name something that is far more acceptable today, than it was when you are a kid?

I will start with something simple. Television. When I was a kid, you only heard cursing used on cable television. Never in cartoons, never on local television. Now, you can hardly watch any given show geared toward adults without hearing cursing. I have even heard it on some of my local stations' so called "family shows".

Unacceptable back then, the norm now.

Hey, when I was a kid, married couples on TV had to have twin beds!

Cursing? Even as a young adult, men did not ever curse in front of a woman, and it was really rare to hear a woman cursing. Now???? Fuhgeddaboutit!

And you very seldom even got to see the bedroom at all.

Now its all out but naked "You can't tell me that's not real" sex!

Talking back to a parent....

When I see kids that aren't even mine, I want so badly to chastise them. But nowadays, if you did, the parent might wanna fight you! Bass akwards.

I am known as somewhat jaded and cynical, so it may be a bit surprising that I feel obligated to point out that not all changes have been for the worse. It is now possible, for example, for men and women to be just friends. There was actually a time in America when the only women a man was permitted to speak to on a regular basis were his wife and daughters. If he talked to any other women, society automatically assumed that there was romance or even illicit sex involved. That a man and woman should live together without a sexual relationship was nearly unthinkable. Yet many men and women can now actually share an apartment and still be nothing more than platonic friends.

Domestic abuse is another example which springs readily to mind. There was a time when a woman never admitted that she was abused. Even If her husband was arrested, she never pressed charges. Divorce was unthinkable even though it meant that many people lived in hell for the duration of their lives. Incest, molestation, abortion...there were quite a few evils which were ignored or were only whispered about.

TATTOOS!
They were only worn by "drunken sailors" when I was a little girl.
Now...the are the norm.
I personally do not have any, but I love to look at them on others.

Many of you know, I'm living in my parents/sister home, it got passed on to me. I too lived in this house from when I was a teenager until I got married and moved out. Anyway.......
The neighbor kid across the street.....here he comes....I know he's turned off the boulevard 1/4 of a mile away because I can hear the...BOOM BOOM BOOM of his radio! Yep, I was right, there he is, sliding sideways into his mother's driveway! Oh wait....flashback.....that used to be me 45 years ago.....

Great thread, Makya

The lack of disrespect from kids and the lack of discipline from parents.

NO........I don't mean all and I'm not talking about fear or abuse. But I remember when my mother could just give us a look and we knew that our behavior had better change quickly and it did.

Well, it's not taboo but my parents can't see why anyone would buy water in a bottle from a store.
