Just wondering if I am the only person that thinks when some people get older they go into the “cute little old lady” or “cute little old man” stage of their life.
I don’t think all older people have this but my mother in law up until she passed was this way and also my 85-year old next door niebor definitely has it happening .
Maybe it’s the wisdom of the life lessons learned, or the letting go of anger, attitude and ego, letting a softness shine through, but I definitely find them adorable and wanting of a big hug.
Treasure the older people in the final stage of their life, their company, knowledge and wisdom are of great value, and you will treasure the time you spent with them when they are gone .

I'm turning 50 in a few months,Im sure some people would consider that geriatric.
Or ,I hear 50 is the new 40. Depends on your perspective.

I find it amazing how they tend to look more alike every year they are together.

the letting go of anger, attitude and ego Thats what makes the cute ones so cute. Always seeming so peaceful, and always dropping little jewels of wisdom.

I love seeing the "older" couples at the store or mall still holding hands...

I do too Lori! Makes it seem like there is hope for everyone to find someone, even if we're getting older.

Fifty! Pretty soon, you're going to have to be helped across the street!
I find that as people age, one of two things happens...they either get softer or harder...and each to the extreme. Inhibitions are gone, and yes, some can be very cute. If you take the time with them, there's often a lot under the surface they're dying to get out.
Great topic!

Theres the other side of this coin too though....
Yesterday morning I watched a couple at breakfast. The woman barely cracked a smile, and the man was talking and you could tell she had tuned him out YEARS ago. Really sad to see.

annie, I watch that alot too. Many couples eat across from each other without saying one single word to each other during the whole meal. It's almost by me watching them is to justify why I'm happier being alone. They might as well be if they can't think of anything to say to each other. I think it's more than being taught not to talk with their mouths full....
But, on the other hand.....I LOVE to see them holding hands and acting like they are the only 2 people in the world!

As I said before, I want to be Frank Costanza and my husband will be Estelle. It will be great.
Estelle Costanza: Georgie, would you like some Jello? Frank Costanza: Why do you put the bananas in there? Estelle Costanza: George likes the bananas! Frank Costanza: SO LET HIM HAVE BANANAS ON THE SIDE!!
(sounds like me, doesn't it)

I have a "thing" about old people.
I guess that is why I am willing to take up so much time with my mom, my 91 y/o grandmother & any other old person I see out & about in need of a little "lift" in life!
Good thread!

I have some friends who are in their 80s. They've been married a long, long time. The lady has had about 3 hip surgeries and several knee surgeries. The last surgery was after she fell in her kitchen and her femur broke due to all the weakening from the surgeries she had had. She had to go to a nursing home while she was recuperating. Her husband took her lunch every day and stayed with her from about 8 in the morning until 6-7 at night. If he got tired, he slept on the extra bed in the room. The nurses even started bringing an extra meal every evening for him! They are so cute and good together. Both have health problems but each use their strength to overcome the other's weakness. I love visiting with them! Oh yeah, they still live in their own home with a cleaning lady that only comes in once a week.

It's nice seeing them still together after all those years. Sadly, they are the last of a dying breed. with divorce rates at 50%, and a messed up current generation of married couples, you won't be seeing many of those sweet old couples in the future.
