Myself & another couple are putting some songs together to play out at some point. We have no illusions about our talent level, & hence have no plan of quitting our day jobs. I play guitar & keyboards & have minimal singing abilities. My buddy B, plays harmonica, & does the low gravely voice pretty well. His wife C sings, & can plink a few keys when necessasry.
We're obviously somewhat limited due to lack of instruments - but we're looking for song ideas from any category. We'll give anything a shot if it's intersting to us, albiet in something of a "stripped down/unplugged" version.
Things we're working on. "Sister Golden Hair." Me on the acoustic. Buddy B replacing the slide guitar with the harmonica. That's the sort of direction we're heading in. Being born in the late 60's we are into pretty much any style out there - cuz we grew up with almost all of them. (Except rap - all of three of us refuse to fart in a microphone & call it music, & then feel the need to be rewarded with applause for "artistic effort.")
So ideas pleases. Anything from your personal fav's to cool renditions of songs you've heard done live.
Thanks for you input.
P.S. To suggest "Freebird" will be considered a felony, & will be treated as such.

BTW it would help if you define your goal a littl more. For example, if you want people to dance, you need to find dance music. So what type of venue are you hoping to play?

Mungo Jerry's fun (that's "In the Summertime", different song) -- that might be what Silver meant, since it's a "band" song.
Here's the classic Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armostrong version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yKgAEkCKxY (from Porgy and Bess)
Loads of bands/orchestras/singers have developed their own version of it...even Janis, lol: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzNEgcqWDG4&feature=related
(it adapts to some cool guitar and keyboard work -- harmonica, too. )

So would "Hotel California" be considered a felony too? Absolutely not. The Eagles are one of my personal favorites. Mainly because there is only "one" of them. Others have tried, but there is really only one "Eagles." I just like the way they are their own category. Sometimes rock and roll - sometimes country - but always just sounding like themselves.
"Tequilla Sunrise" is in the setlist. Fits the acoustic guitar (obvioiusly,) & my guitar chops as well. At this time, I'm closer to Glenn Fry chops, as opposed to Walsh or Felder.
