While getting to know everyone here in the forums, I often try to visualize their surroundings. What does their town/city look like? What does their home look like? What are the fun places like that they to go to?
I thought it would be fun for each of us to describe where we live.
I don't want you to give out details that might be too informative and revealing, for safety reasons. I would like a mental visual though.
I'll write back w/ mine.

I live in a rural community, about 25 miles from Palm Springs, California.
My home is very cozy. I have a corner rock fireplace that I love to light up, on those cold winter days. My property is about three quarters of an acre, and I have a small pond, because the water sounds soothe me. I have made it a point to have meditative sitting areas here and there, and the stars are brilliant at night.
About a mile away from me, is a preserve, owned by the Nature Conservancy, and I am a matter of miles from the Joshua Tree National Monument. Our preserve contains about 475 different species of birds, and there are wood-planked paths, winding through marsh areas, and cottonwood trees.
In the low desert, just about a ten mile drive, is Mission Creek. The rushing creek water comes from the melting snows of San Gorgonio, and I am usually the only one there when I visit to sit and soak in the sun.
If you continue down the dirt road, you will come to my favorite hiking trail. There are some remains there of old rock houses, and the trail disappears into the mountain. It is still a best kept secret.
Palm Springs is where I grew up. It has managed to still hold some of its charm, even with all off the growth. I thoroughly enjoy window shopping on Palm Canyon, and sitting in an outdoor restaurant patio, soaking in the warm rays, people watching, and gazing at our majestic Mount San Jacinto.
I am two hours from the ocean, and can be at the river, or Laughlin in three or four hours.

Does your lake freeze in winter? If so, do people ice skate?

I live in the psychiatric wing of broadmoor prison, , and I’m allowed three hours of IT a day!
I share a cell with a six foot nine guy with tattoos on his forehead called ‘slashes for fun - who are you looking at Dave’
And sometimes when ‘Dave’ is in a good mood, he will throw me up at the bars in the window, then I can see the fogy moor!

Woods is the operative word here... I live in da boonies...surrounded by woods...which happen to shelter a few stray skunks...the town is fairly good sized...after all one of the top Ski Resorts is located smack dab in the middle of it...a few lakes scattered here and there...they do freeze...after all I`m right in the center of the snowbelt...gets mighty cold here....always wanted to be a snow bunny and go skiing down da hill on me tush ...but was a chicken...
Lets see...thats it for now...

My place is an 80 yr old, 2 story, farmhouse on 10 acres, in the Smokey Mountains of NC. I look out my kitchen window into a 3 acre horse pasture and usually my old Appaloosa mare is somewhere grazing nearby. I look out my front windows, and I see a 4-stall barn which has warmed baby goats after their mothers' had just given birth, hatched baby chicks, and sheltered injured owls, stray dogs, etc. until they are healed. I look out my windows to the East, and I see the beautiful Cowee Mtns. (right now, they have some snow on top). I look out my windows to the West, and I see the rest of the property, poplar, black walnut, white pine, and maple trees and where I ran into the bank with the riding lawn mower last summer.....

Hi Med,
Interesting. I have printed out a ton of real estate listings for old Victorian homes in North Carolina. I plan on visiting there, to see if I might like to relocate to the Southeast. The homes are beautiful.

Desert dweller here. The house looks like a Mexican hacienda, with a courtyard in front and a big old olive tree. There's a 20-some foot saguaro next to the house, with oleander along the side and bouganvillea in front, with palm trees all around us. The front yard is desert...white gravel with a pink gravel 'creek' and assorted desert rocks arranged along it. The back yard is my oasis...a third of an acre of grass and trees, with a diving pool and basketball court. I have a raised bed garden on one side, where I'm growing tomatoes, jalapenos, lavender and strawberry plants (hopefully fruit next June). Walking is quite citified, but I can walk to a horse farm, with roosters crowing in the morning. Definitely different from my NYC roots!

Humph! Ok, the pub is on the banks of a river near the fishing village of ‘Beer’ in Devon. It go’s back to the seventieth century.
It is reputed to be base of the infamous smugger ‘John Rattenbury’ but it is now frequented by the likes of other strange people and myself!

hey, classy, sorry i missed u on skype.
i live a few blocks from campus n a cul-de-sac. fortunately, my neighbors arent students. i have a two bedroom rental (i dont think i ever want 2 b a homeowner). i'm surrounded by greenery on three sides. i have my computer by the window so i can daydream n write 2 my heart's content. conway is less than 30 mins from the state capitol. conway isn't rustic like ozark, but its the next best thing.
most social events n arkansas surrounds food, movies n sex. i'm serious. they dont have many cultural events outside of fort smith or little rock (if someone can tell me i'm wrong, please correct me fast. i'm depressed! ) arkansas is ok if u can live on retirement or other fixed income. in other words, this is a great place to visit --

I live in a small town of 3000. It is surrounded by nothing but farm's. It is quiet and there is little crime here. I have to drive 16 mile's to find a Walmart. I stay here because the cost of living is cheap and my kid's love the school's.
