...And why not Goose? They are simply "expressing" and have just as much right to claim it is alright, as you do for anyplace else; don't be a hypocrite Trouble reading fella?
I said....The only place I couldn't see getting a tattoo is on the face. Mike tyson has one. So do many tribals. I couldn't see getting one because it would fking hurt! Sorry, not a hypocrate. Good troll though.
Fortune 500 employees???
Employees at aircraft maker Boeing Co. can show off tattoos so long as the designs aren't what a spokesman called "offensive.
And even older people are getting tattoos. Mary Hamilton Dynes, an implementation project manager in the business travel department of American Express Canada, was 44 when she returned from a Mexican vacation in the winter of 2004 with a sunrise tattooed on her right shoulder. It "is very visible, which was the intention," when she wears summer dresses. Want a few more? Employees at ABC and Fed Ex are not required to cover tattoos.
I got more, but this makes my point quite clearly.
And let's read back a bit. [/b]you [/b] were the one to bring up the fortune 500 employees.

LJ: What does ass sweat have to do with anything? ...Hey L; taking a break from War and Peace already?
...Come to think of it, many of my aspirations required a lot of ass sweat. Yet, the OP was about women and tats... not guys. All of my closest friends have tats, but from a different era, mostly military and in a professional environment, they do cover them.
=============
Goose: Trouble reading fella? ...No, but you need to try a little harder... read my post again and it said: SG: "Alright, I will play... name one female executive in a Fortune 500 company that has an exposed tat?"
Goose: I got more, but this makes my point quite clearly. ...You have nothing, nor do yard monkeys count as being a female executive in a Fortune 500 company that has an exposed tat.
...Give it up Goose, as it just isn't so ... and if tats are for as you say, "expression," then on the face is just as relevant as anyplace else, or totally pro-tat would be a hypocrite. You do have exceptions...
...Anyway, this thread is about women and tats, not guys; so idiots like Tyson have no relevancy as an example.
Goose: Prison tattoos and home made ones are very green. It's from using heated baby oil for ink. ...Depends on where they are from. Russian and many central Europe prison tats are blue, made from "grinding" the heel of a shoe and mixing with piss for ink.

Home made tats are also made with India ink and are drawn using a model car engine, a guitar string, and an empty ink pen,
The colors are no different than a professionals, but the drawings usually are.

LGQ: When my generation runs these companies... ...I know, as that is what my generation said as well.
...Actually, when I was a kid, there were a lot more men with exposed tats, than I notice today and just the opposite for women.
=============== ===============
...Goose forgot to give a link to his quote on Mary Hamilton Dynes (Canada), but reading it all, I would not say that even the pro-tat folks are advocating showing off one's colors for a job interview...
But for a first meeting, it's still a good idea to take out the stud and cover the tattoo, at least until you gauge the level of acceptance. "You can't assume that, just because employers need employees to fill jobs, that they are just going to turn a blind eye to appearance. Employers less needled by tattooed workers ...and from Goose's same link of authority:
We're not there quite yet, however.
An on-line survey by the employment website Vault.com released in May found that 44 per cent of the 500 U.S. respondents who identified themselves as managers admitted to having either a tattoo or non-ear piercing. Yet, 42 per cent said their opinion of someone would be lowered if they showed up for a job interview with prominent body decorations, and 58 per cent said they would be less likely to offer them a job. ...So, 42% would think less of someone for having an exposed tat and 58% would not even hire someone with same, one might conclude that if they want a job, exposed tats will dramatically reduce their chances in competition with someone that does not have or expose tats.
...Thus, as a parent, my advice to my own sons and other kids, is to wait and if wanted, use the more modern ink that is easily removed, as well as make certain any potential tats can be hidden for any future employment or contractual interviews.

I have no idea what a person is trying to communicate by putting tattoos on their body. Are they trying to suggest that they cannot verbally communicate their thoughts and prefer to visually display them? (Stay away, warning Will Robinson, warning) Are they trying to acquire attention? (Hey, Hey, Look at me) If so then what does it say about that person's self esteem? I have seen some that have names of people such as significant others or children or in memory of others that have died. Also a special character, group or event.
I this case I guess identification though ink marking might be important..... let's say for gang members.
Who else could a tattoo possibly be important to if the person displaying already has it in their own mind to begin with? Answer.... they are begging for attention.
When people come forth and show me their tattoos the thought that comes to my mind is "So What? What's the big deal about that?" Speak to me on an intellectual level instead of letting some ink trying to leave me with guess work.
Skull and blood tattoos make me laugh and ridicule the people who wear them because the people wearing them usually try to explain how much of a bad-ass of a person they are.

If you gotta have one get it where it can be hidden for a formal occasion. Nothing clashes quite like an evening gown and a tatoo.

My tattoo is where it is for a reason.
And I HAVE spoken to you on an intellectual level, so we've gotten that out of the way

I have 3 tattoos. Got the first one when I turned 50. That one is definitely hidden from view unless I wear a swimsuit. My ankle one shows occasionally as my socks slip down! LOL At Christmas I got one on my right shoulder. It's one I designed myself. All 3 have to do with cats. Will I get more? Possibly, it seems to get addicting. My niece has 7--her latest idea is having the word "love" done in different languages down the inside of one of her arms. The first was LOVE in English. She also wants love in sign language done. I really like that idea of hers but as a teacher, I have to keep mine more or less covered. There was nothing said at all in our professional handbook but after I got my ankle one, an email was sent out asking school employees to keep them covered. My students (2nd graders) know I have several. They've seen the ankle one. I discuss with them that it's important to be older before you get one, then have something with meaning to you. They're fine with it.

i do not personally have any tats, i have yet to think of anything in my head that ive GOT to have inked on me forever. I can not stand those who get inked for the simple fact of tattoos being a "trend" at the moment. it is very RARE to find people that do not have some sort of ink on their body. That does not mean i find that to be a bad thing, but i wonder if in 50 years those who get inked because its trendy if they still find that cute turtle on their boob cute. I do enjoy tattoos that have a purpose though, well thought out meaningful tats. tramp stamps im my opinion along with the boob tats are nasty and dont look good at any age!

From a purely aesthetic point of view, I've rarely seen a tattoo that's been an enhancement to a woman's body...most seem to take away from the skin God gave them.
If someone wants to use their body as a billboard, fine. I know a lot of tats have personal meaning to that person, and they choose to share it, but they shouldn't be upset if others think they look messy, strange, or tacky -- from a "personal grooming" standpoint.
You don't see those female upper management Fortune 500 execs flashing armpit hair, toothless smiles, or bare bulging bellies, either...any more than you'd see them walk into a board meeting wearing filthy rubber flip-flops, "Fvk Me Baby" or faded rock concert T-shirts, or M&M colored spikey hair (unless it's a particularly offbeat/artsy-oriented business).
~sigh~ I think of the wedding I went to down in Mexico -- the bride had the most amazing white satin gown, one of a kind, ultra "designer"...and despite the fact that her tat is one of the most well designed, well executed oriental motifs I've ever seen on a woman, it runs from her collarbone all the way down one arm, it was clearly out of place for that occasion. Besides making her dress look "inelegant", it looked like her arm had been mangled and bruised in a car accident in most of the wedding photos. It DOES look pretty cool and "in character" when she's wearing a sleevless black tank while she's on assignment or traipsing the streets of Manhatten as a world-class photographer, though.
Time-and-place...I'd say that one should seriously anticipate their lifetime goals and potential lifestyle before submitting certain parts of their body to inking...visualize the entire picture you'd like to project, not just a few square inches, because no matter what your feeling is about being "judged" on your "art", it's going to happen, no matter what. It's all part of the entire visual "package", and while some people may think a mass of visible tats is "unique", in a good way, others may put them in the same "unique" category as those wearing slashes of bright red lipstick on their eyebrows and blue eyeshadow on their cheeks...especially when those people are in the public/service sector (customers/clients should have the attention focused on them, not the other way around)
And Renee, don't tell ME to suck anything...if you think my OPINION sucks, you're still not going to change it...because I own it.

Well, be that as it may, it is still Renae's opinion that those who do not approve of her tattoos should "suck it".....you cant change that either.....she owns it.

Who else could a tattoo possibly be important to My tats are for me. If someone else likes them.....great....if not....great.

I think a tatt on the pancreas would be an inappropriate location. Doing so may trigger an insulin imbalance, resulting in a blood sugar fluctuation, that in turn would create an acute state of mental confusion. Such a mental confusion would facilitate narcissistic thoughts of everyone elses tatts to be crap, while theirs are works of fine art. Just say NO to pancreatic tatts, I say!
