so lj.. you learned nothing from war and peace...
sunny made a valid point... you took it somewhere else... and added a little gas to it too...
I respect LGQ's right to have a tat anywhere she wants... as I do your right.. but to post a picture of your tat as a primary photo is too.funny..
but to say one opinion has more merit than another's is just wrong.. and imho. that is what Sunny was saying... and only that...

GH, it's really not "funny"....if you took the time to understand what lj's tattoo means...the word "funny" is not what you would use.
And I'm personally not saying that other people's opinions don't have merit. I just personally don't care what they are and would proceed to tell people who think that my tattoo is classless because of where it is placed (when there is a real reason why it is placed there; I didn't do it to get guys to look at my malformed, non existent breasts) to lick my snatch.

I still think they're more acceptable on a man's body than a woman's. It may be sexist, but they're generally not very feminine. I once worked with a woman who had Peter Rabbit tatooed on her boob. She looked like Carol Brady in every other way. How is Peter gonna look when she's old? Like Harvey?

Yep, it's all about gender role defection. That's what I thought:
In one of the few studies of women and tattoos, Armstrong (1991) looked at career-oriented women who possessed tattoos, their responses to questions concerning their experience and decisions regarding the tattooing procedure, and the reactions of the people around them. She found that many people with whom the women came into contact made derogatory and stereotypical remarks, such as calling them "biker mama" (p. 219). Armstrong concluded that women received ambivalent responses from many of the people in their lives, and the most negative attitudes toward the women's tattoos came from their fathers, or the fathers of their friends and associates. These men responded to the women's tattoos with silence or disparaging remarks, and they often verbalized their worries about how society in general would perceive the tattoo and the woman who wore it.
Why would the general stigma of tattoos for women remain even as numerous women went out of their way to acquire tattoos? Tattoos and tattooing have been considered primarily a man's activity and would, therefore, likely be considered a gender role violation for women. Rosenfield (1982) found that both men and women are evaluated negatively when they transgress gendered boundaries. Moreover, in a study of gender norm violation by Kunkel and Nielsen (1998), appearance norm deviance generated the most negativity. The refusal to control the body and its display in ways that are socially acceptable seems to be perceived as a threat to the social order (Ralph, 1996).
Basic social psychological phenomena compound this tendency to judge on the basis of appearance. Kruglanski and Webster (1991) examined how a person's need for closure (a motivation to draw a conclusion quickly and terminate cognitive processing related to the issue) affected reactions to nonconformity. They found that nonconformists were evaluated more negatively when there was a high need to reach closure. Doherty (1998) concluded that under most conditions of need to reach closure, both men and women evaluated female targets more negatively when they deviated from the group, but showed no such preference for conformity in male targets. Doherty (1998) suggested that this lack of preference for conformity in male targets may be due to the gender-role expectations and stereotype of men as independent thinkers. It can be argued that, when women become tattooed, they may be evaluated more negatively than men who become tattooed for two reasons: the refusal to obey appearance norms and the gender nonconformity that it displays. I'm against tattoos. If a person asks me if they should get a tattoo, I'll say no.
But heck, that's just me.

Inappropriate? I don't think any tattoos are inappropriate in any size or location...
I do think tattoos make a woman look a little masculine in a way...but that's not a bad thing.

I have a friend named John (neo-Nazi) who made the decision to tattoo his entire face with various Nazi insignia. He lives down in Texas and his decision has forced him to become highly reclusive. Girls by nature are attracted to him because he is a "bad boy", but he is 29 now and still a virgin because he decided to get so many tattoos on his face. I've seen him before he got the work done and he is gorgeous, but for some reason he felt he needed to cover his entire face in tattoos. When I talk to him, he tells me "I wish I could have a wife and a family."
It's sad...

I know that, but he doesn't really have much money and laser removal is VERY expensive. Also, I think he went once to get a tattoo removed and the girl who was doing it was Jewish and for some reason now he's too freaked out to go try again

as afaik.. laser removal actually burns the inked skin away ??
I would think that it would not be very easy to do on one's face ( thinking that was what freaked out the tech not the tats..) as there is not much room for error and who wants a scarred face or the lawsuit for scarring someone...?

Well if the woman is a total goth, punk or something then I wouldn't mind one on the face...hehehe I like freaky girls!
I would never get a tattoo but I think they look good on other people. They look good only if the artwork isn't crappy. I saw this guy on TV that had his entire face covered with tattoos. He looked like snake man! I thought it was kinda cool.

I'd like to offer my suggestion on the anti-semite facial tatt situation, but I just never had any neo-nazi friends that could offer advice in that area. We live with our choices, good or bad, I guess.

GH I completely understand that; it's just sad that he made the decision to cover his entire face with tattoos...it's cost him a normal life

LGQ is it because he has tattoos on his face that freaks people out?
Or is it mostly because of the Nazi stuff?

It's the tattoos on his face. Most Neo-Nazis, or the ones that I have known, find some way to function in society and are not really strange people except for their beliefs...if one can get past the beliefs many of them are easy to talk to. It's just his tattoos.
