Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all.

I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money-power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.

~Abraham Lincoln [1864]

What we call wisdom is the result of all the wisdom of past ages. Our best institutions are like young trees growing upon the roots of the old trunks that have crumbled away.

The mark of a truly great mind isn't whether you're right or wrong. It's how well you can weasel out of a jam.

Ponder, if you will, one of the cruelest ironies of life:

There are few things that a man enjoys more than the sight of a naked woman, yet the only effect that male nudity has on a woman is to repel her.

It's a cruel world.

Great stuff, Rare! I really liked this one...

Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.

Yet there are those that attack you when you try to educate them and they call you NEGATIVE when you try to impart knowledge you have. Then they tell you how stupid you are. Why? Because some of the things THEY do are very counterproductive and unhealthy and you just pointed it out to them. They think you have just disrespected them. Hence the attacking. Duh.

Sometimes people pretend to be intelligent but their minds are imprinted and closed. They ask for things in their lives but do not make a fertile place in their lives for these things to grow. Putting down herbicide and trying to plant a garden the next day is doomed to failure
