I wonder if our ancestors lived life like there was no tommorrow or if they had foresight of things to come?

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Nope, not this one anyway!

Back on topic:

“He drew a circle that shut me out— Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout. But love and I had the wit to win; We drew a circle that took him in!”
- Charles Edwin Markham (1852-1940)

p.s. I memorized that one when I first read it, over 50 years ago. Short, sweet, to the point, and an absolute gem.

"I must do something" always solves more problems than "Something must be done."

You cannot add to the peace and good will of the world if you fail to create an atmosphere of harmony and love right where you live and work. – Thomas Dreier

Gardens... should be like lovely, well-shaped girls: all curves, secret corners, unexpected deviations, seductive surprises and then still more curves.

Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will.

Footsteps in the sand

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along
the beach with the Lord.

Across the dark sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene, he noticed
two sets of footprints in the sand,
one beloning to him and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the
very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.

"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life there is
only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when I needed you most
you would leave me."

The Lord replied "My precious, precious child,
I love you and would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffereing,
when you see only one set of footprints in the sand,
it was then that I carried you."

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.

~Winston Churchill

The lower you are, the harder you have to knock someone to make them see things at your level.

If I've heard this before, I'd love to know where so I can give it the proper credit. I was half awake/half asleep when it came to me.
