Does anyone here have any experience with eating disorders and can tell me any signs or anything?
I think Ava may be suffering from anorexia and it is killing me. I love her like she was my own sister and I don't know how I am supposed to help. I tried to talk to her about it and she got noticeably upset and denied she had a problem. I am so scared for her. She used to eat a lot and is now only eating cereal and fruit and whatever it is we have for dinner. It is so frightening. I'm scared for her well-being.

Yes, Dear.............Although my disorder is not active............I still have to fight to not "see" a larger person in my mirror..............AND I"M FKIN SKINNY!!!!
Of course she got upset............getting peeped put does that to someone. I am not qualified to do more than tell you to use that love you have for her in a gentle encouraging kind of way...........with out directly confronting the issue. Unless it should become life threatening. Love does great things. You have been through much and have wisdom gained. Your heart will know how to use it.
Love to you both.....................

Well not eating much could be a major sign of an eating disorder, but then you gotta think of other reasons that maybe she's not eating much, is she stressed or depressed about anything? Because sometimes that curbs an appetite loss. Other major signs of anorexia are exercising excessively, constantly puting that persons self down, withdrawn and moody, and I guess denial. Honestly it can be really hard to find out if someone else is suffering from an eating disorder because most who have one usually figure out a way to "hide" it from others (atleast thats how I was when I had a problem) Its great that you care about your friend and that you want to help her. Just make her aware that your there for her and that if she is having problems that you will support her in geting help. I hope she will be ok. -Ash

She is my sister's friend technically, though her and I have bonded. She's like a little sister to me and I care about her very much. I tried to talk to her but she flat out denied having any kind of eating problem but said there was something wrong emotionally that she didn't want to talk about and hoped would pass.
I am worried because her circulation is off (she is getting dizzy when she stands up), she is not sleeping very well, and her mood is flat sometimes. These are signs of an eating disorder, so I've heard.

Yeah those could be signs its hard to say because those signs could be for alot of other things too. How old is she? If she is under 18 could you maybe talk to her parent or whoever takes care of her and tell them that your concerned that something is wrong with her, and that maybe she should see a dr? Because if she's dizzy and not sleeping well maybe she has some something else wrong, where maybe she should have tests run by doctors. Best of luck to her -Ash

A friend of mine has two sisters and both suffer from anorexia One has solved her problems but the little is still involved.
They have been helped by psychological therapies......not only the two daughters but the complete family because in this case the situation was complex and deep-seated.
The only suggestion is to convice her to treat her disease. Alone she cannot recover from anorexia.......abolutely not
Take care Lip

Well, at least she is eating 2 meals a day...that's good.
Watch her eat....does she take tiny portions hoping nobody will notice? Does she "play with" her food and pretend to eat?
Dry skin, hair growth on arms and back (body's defense to regulate it's temperature) Does she go to the restroom shortly after eating? Do you find her food hidden strange places?
Good luck

also, her breath....I worked with a girl that had an eating disorder. She denied it. But shortly after lunch she would go to the bathroom. You could smell the odor on her breath, clothes.......
