I am so tired of getting emails where the spelling is all done in text wording. Now I know there are some unique spellers on MD, like Jaybird, Burns and Hobbit. I 'm not talking about them. I'm talking about the ones who start emails with "hello Pretty" or "Hi Gorgeous" and then go on to say things like "How r u tonite? I m fine." It's just getting too irritating for words!
Does anyone else feel like this?
And the greetings! Geez, I'm not pretty or gorgeous and I know it but all you're going on is a pic of my cats or my hand. WTH????

Sign- I pretty much agree with you, its rather annoying! I can understand if people make typeing errors or use some simple abbreviations but most of its just a headache. Expectually the S's turning into Z's in every other word.
LGQ- Took me awhile to figure out what you wrote, I got most of it after a headache of reading haha. But I'm still trying to figure out what lawl stands for?

Jay I always understand you perfectly!
LGQ I knew you were kidding. I've read lots of your posts and blogs, darling and I know you can spell.
But why do some people think that text spelling is so appealing?

"lawl" is a corruption of the word "lol". just like "lulz".
i use "lolspeak" sometimes because i think it's funny. just like i "talk ghetto" sometimes because i think it's funny.

But why do some people think that text spelling is so appealing? In my guess its either laziness, the fact that people can't spell anything more complicated then a 3 letter word, and its probably faster to abbreviate everything...

Wow LGQ I actually figured out the lawl! I guess it comes from teaching 2nd graders who are not yet the best spellers!
Ash--I understand the typos, guilty of that here a lot! LOL But if it's just laziness, come on! Use the education you got in your youth, esp. if you're in your 30s, 40s, 50s!
Jay--

Well I don't really mind.. if they start out with hello cutie or pretty or dear.. block box.. if their spelling looks like a third graders and they say they are 45 or 50, then I wouldn't have much in common with them, and again, the block box. I have 0 tolerance for that sort of thing. I want someone reasonably intelligent, and if that makes me some kind of snob, then so be it.

Could be ......
* They're so much in the habit of texting that it's become normal. * They think it's the cool thing to do. * They really can't spell any better than that.
Sucks for them regardless of which one it is.

Along similar lines.... I came across this woman's profile over on POF, and the first five words of her profile were, "I am A intelligent woman". that did it for me!

I freely admit I am a grammar and spelling snob. That's just one of those things I am unwilling to give much ground on. I get those e-mails full of text-speak and it just sets my nerves on edge. Unless they are accessing Matchdoctor from a Blackberry and don't have ready access to a full keyboard, there is just no call for that.
