Well, as I expected, I received a message on my answering machine this evening from that woman's insurance company, saying that they have deemed my car a total loss. Big surprise. Now, would you care to offer me some suggestions as to how I proceed? I already know that I'm getting in touch with "my" lawyer(Actually, he's my neighbour, who's a lawyer with a local reputable law firm).

If you are in touch with your lawyer, then he should take care of the rest.
That's why you pay them.

You keep all of your paperwork, and notes of phone calls in a folder. Dates, times, names.
Never sign anything you may have long term med coming out of....
