Just went to PetSmart....12 fish, another parakeet and a lizard for my son...all the accesories....three children wide eyed with delight at the register...I wrote a check, and the register kept telling me it was declinned....I had 3 times the amount of money needed in the checking account....why can't I use it?
It is a new checking account...I waited the app two weeks for the deposit check to clear...(6/27/08)....why can't I write the check?
I asked them to get the manager cause there were so many "live" purchases...the maneger called the register, he said that unless I had another way to pay, too bad...if I did, wouldn't I have done that? I feel like a loser in front of my kids. Sunday, have more than enough money to cover, but can't get at it....

computer error....
...not really ...I think it was a data entry snafu ( read: a people error )
...afaik no store cash register system is tied into any checking acount directly.. but instead a private company like VeriCheck ..(link..) ...who insures all checks that they ok.. as it was a new account ..it was not entered into their data base yet...
....  .....

Being about as anti-paper as I can be, I use a debit card...I'm pretty sure that all banks have them now (aka ATM card). No muss, no fuss and you can access all your records online. A heck of a lot quicker at checkout time too. It's essentially the same thing as using a check, except it clears immediately.

Thank you all...I would have loved to have used the debit card...haven't gotten it in the mail yet...  this is why I I always do cash...instead I listened to my dad and got a checking account

Explain that to my 10 year old holding his chinese water dragon and my three year old with his "yellow" bird....
I had to tell them to put them down and leave them....
Pissed that the maneger couldn't be bothered to come talk to me...just called the register over the phone... 
I feel like such a loser...how to convince the kids that I had the money when the people made them put the stuff down and walk away...

It sucks...my three year old keeps crying...mommy, please go back and get my yellow bird...
I called the corporate office cause I was in my car for 20 min or longer trying to straighen this out...went back in the store...my purchase...two bags of fish, the bird in a box and a lizard in a box (that had fallen on the ground) was all still sitting there...nobody cared...
Anyone who cares about animals, knows that this was wrong...I blame the maneger...

I was...but the most at my bank...opened the account...three weeks ago...put plenty of cash in there to cover while waiting for the 500.00 check to clear. I never should have had a problem...
I'm having flash backs of when I was married and my ex had control of the debit card..it took me a minute...then I said to myself...wait a minute, this is MY account..the money is in there...

I'm still trying to find the number...it says that it's all there ($650.00) 
Just got off the phone with the maneger of PetSmart...he's really young
I said that I tried to get him to come to the register, he said that he heard it was a check problem....I told him that I had small children with me and it was a bank problem, but his job is to come talk to me...he got nervous and put me on hold....
When he came back 5 min later, I asked him to hold the animals...he said, you will be here in the morning? I said no, around 7 PM I have to work...he said he would hold them just for tomorrow...sheesh...youngster...like people are beating down their doors to buy a chinese water dragon...
I told him that when you work in a place that has children as clientel, part of his job is customer service.... 
He assured me that he would be there tomorrow night when I got there...

What bank are you using? You should have gotten an ATM card to use the day you set up your account.

I'm sorry to hear about this.
I hope they put all the animals back up so they are not still sitting in boxes?
You could try calling 1 800 555 1212 and ask for your banks national toll free number and hope they are open on Sunday.

Thank you kenn...I called the store direct when I got home. I told the maneger that I would be coming to get them tomorrow and that I went back in the store and saw that they were all still on the counter (except the lizard that had fallen to the ground) he assured me he would put them back and hold them for me till tomorrow...
