Wow! Sure got a lot more response than I expected!
For me, dating seems to come in waves. Not one bite for a couple of months, then suddenly I get a bunch of emails and meet several guys. Right now I am meeting a few guys, but none from this site. PoF seems to be the most active and they have local meetup parties.
I don't think I want to get married anyway, but it is nice to have someone to hang out with. There is a big festival this weekend and I am still not sure who I will be going with to watch the fireworks. You can't do that with forum friends. It is great you guys have made friends with people so far away, but don't you want a friend who can do stuff in person with you?

Sometimes you plan on finding someone in person and sometimes you don't plan on falling in love at all but things happen that are out of your control.

How can you fall in love online? Sure, sometimes it seems like you found a gem, but them you meet them and they are not at all what you expected.

I've made "forum friends", both men and women, then I've met them. I have rarely been disappointed -- they've almost always been exactly as I found them online. Many have been even MUCH better in person. 
And yep, I fell in love online...we just didn't know it until we got together in person ~grin~ (we'd been online friends here and elsewhere for 4 years -- when the timing was right, we decided to meet and see whether we'd progress beyond our "mutual admiration society". POW!  Absolutely amazing. One of those relationships that just got better and better every single day. Something the two of us had no idea was possible.  I'll always be grateful to MatchDoctor for giving us the opportunity to get to know each other online and become friends first.

Yes it's still a dating site...I've been here for a little over 2 yrs now I think...Haven't had a date, but I'm not looking for one...
I was an avid blogger until I hit forumland...I love all of MD. Made some really great friends here that I would love to meet in person!
