Oh yeah, my standard, I don't give out my IM, have a nice day got mocked today,lol...I guess it's lame. How can you say no in a way that is polite?
I have this thing, people write me and ask if I want to be friends, or chat, and I tell them I don't give out my IM but I'll chat on here if they want. They don't like that. 
...My profile say's I'm in a relationship though so what do they expect? I don't think I should be giving my IM to chat to guy's when I already have one. That's just my thoughts on this but anyhoo, how do you all handle it? (Especially if they aren't scammer's.)

I tell people straight up that I don't IM. Period. It's time consuming and I can't be bothered. I've briefly IM'd with EF and of course Goose but I can't think of anyone else.
There was one "man" (I'm assuming) who said he was someone else and I fell for it. I learned that lesson the way I have learned most. The hard way.

I'd IM with the ladies on here no problem, If I had time and was actually on it too. That's the other thing, you can never know if they really are who they say they are...So I guess it's more slightly peed off people for me,lol.

I very rarely give out my IM and that's only after I've emailed a while.
I learned that the hard way....many years ago.

I tell it. And if I don't want to talk to them, I'm invisible. That rarely happens....but it has. Or I delete them from my list all together, if I get a bad vibe. I've also IM'd on here with gold members. I don't see a problem with it.

I never have mine up or running! Even though I am on here a lot, doesn't mean I want to sit and write back and forth on an IM.

I figure the main purpose of being here is to meet people ... for romance or friendship .... if you're both ok with IM's right away, go for it .... but if one isn't, the other should have enough respect for them to not pursue it.

fender...before I even read all of the posts here, I was gonna tell you exactly the same thing Lori just said right about me....
"Just say no." There is NOTHING wrong with that!
Further to what Lori said...if they don't like, they probably are not worthy of your friendship anyway!

I IM with people all the time...after a few exchanges of emails, I get tired of waiting for the next one!!! IMing is like instant gratification to me!!! We can actually hold a conversation. That being said, I am particular about who I give my IM address too...If they abuse they piss me off...they're blocked...easy as that...
As far as saying you aren't interested...just tell them that you aren't interested...besides, if you are in a relationship, then obviously they didn't read your profile...I'd just delete them for ignorance!!! But, that's just me

well since i get freaks all the time IMMING me out of the blue the block button works wonders and usually I am the one asking for IMs  and lemme think...  I dont think I have ever had to delete or block anyone from here on IM .. but if you dont want to then DONT silly girl... no explanation neccessary.. just tell them.." I dont want to give out my Yahoo( or what have you )maybe later when I have gotten to know you better.. "

I used to be nice to everyone...it only takes one stalker to change your mind on that!!! Now, I am polite to a point when it is warranted....like just a misguided, silly man...the rest of the time...DELETE!!!
And yes, Silver...I can be a hard ass...
