If there is, I've yet to encounter it

In my estimation, it's even worse than dating!

Feel free to share horror and success stories. Or you can tell me to stop being such a whinebag. Your choice

if that is how you choose to see it that is what it is... or it can be seen as a chance for growth and that it's long pass time for growth in your knowledge, skills and life... the choice is yours ...

Actually in my career, I have them begging me to work for them.

But that's not always a good thing since the nursing shortage sucks.

Nah, I've been actively searching since March when I became a newly-minted medical transcriptionist, so my sunny disposition is somewhat....challenged.

I have plenty of skills and education - but I also live in a rural area where opportunities are not plentiful.

I'm going back to nursing part time mom - something I never thought I'd do in a gazillion years!

i understand your situation but there are times when we sit back and wait for things to change and there are times we look for new ways to have those changes fit our situation or we change our situation so we can reach our goals....

I mean no disrespect in any form or fashion.... everyone at one time and some many times have been where you are and it was our choices that either left us in it or got us out of it... remember it effects you and only you can change your life or situations of the moment.... my well wishes are sent and are sincere but they can not change anything you are going through at the moment... i think we both understand that...

It's tough, but it pays the bills.

And it helps people too.

Aero, location doesn't have to stop you any more. I've worked various jobs from home now for about 5 years. Try Transcription Matchmaker. Hold on...

Night - they want two years experience and I'm entry-level. Hence why I'm having such a hard time!

I lost my job in the furniture industry 18 months ago.. there are no furniture jobs left here now.. 2 of the remaining high end companies are shutting their doors the end of this month.. I have only been able to find short term or part time jobs since then..
it's devastating to us older folks that have been put out on the curb.. the companies that are hiring want younger blood.. we have no insurance.. risk losing the roof over our heads at any time.. our utilities cut off for late payment..
it's been hell..

It's all good Night - can't hurt to look

That's my main issue - no experience aside from school. The quintessential Catch-22!

I know what you mean, Daisy. The days of "compassionate" employers seem to be long behind us. It's hard from both sides. The local diner who would hire an elderly widow to just sit at the register and talk to people and ring up their sales, just to give her something to do to fill her time and have a little income to keep her from the poor house can't do it anymore. (Unless its under the table.) Companies check your health insurance claims and if you have anything that looks like a chronic problem, gee. they just don't have a position for the over-50s. I hear people wondering why so many "old people" work at Wal-Mart, and sometimes I just wanna clean their clocks. Just read a new article earlier today about how ERISA is working to do just the opposite of what was intended. Companies are no longer sticking with insurance companies, and if your company insurance carrier changes they can deny you for a previous condition that you were covered for under the prior company. And nothing has changed except who the company buys their insurance from.I ran into a problem last year when I let my private life insurance accidentally lapse. Now I can't get even get an increase in my company life plan.

Yep there is .. applying for public assistance so you can feed your kids or for Medi-Cal so your kids are covered... or applying for help of ANY kind.. even unemployment after working for 20 years without ever using any kind of aid or unemployment etc and then ya get the twit looking her damn nose down at you and making you feel like crap all for wanting to collect something you have paid into for all those years for only a month until your new job starts oh and yeah the ever present being dumped by a beau that can and is soul sucking and esteem depleting

need more?? Be happy that you have the ability to search for a job..think of those who have no skills or opportunities and thus no hope good luck on your search Muse

yeppers I know it will... I know it can be depressing as all hell to try so hard and run into a wall... but the thing ya need to do is either go around the wall (try looking in a related field that uses the same skills) or over it (taking a lower paying job and working your way up ) ...

4 1/2 years ago I was out of work ..... I had been an over the road trucker, and sleep problems set in, basically making me unable to drive, or even function halfway normally ( nothing new, there, I guess ) ..... was out of work almost a year when I applied to a small warehouse as a parts inspector .... after a one hour interview, I was their new warehouse manager ( still not sure how that happened ) ..... so that has been one of the long-story-with-happy-ending job hunts .....

Until today .... working for the same company .... I got the news that our main product supplier ( like, 97% of where all of our product comes from ) burned down 2 days ago .... our tooling is probably destroyed, and not replaceable in any short amount of time .... and we have enough in-house product to last us maybe a week .... after that, who knows what will happen ....

I have a side business, and recently refocused it from doing customer websites to my own sites .... now I may have to jump back into that for awhile ....

I guess when life hands you lemons .... slice the f***ers, stick 'em in a bottle of Corona, and get drunk.
