How good is your judgement of people?
I've been questioning my judgement lately.... For example...I hired three people whom have shown me a different side after two months...
Was my judgement so off? Or, were they just really good actors during an interview?
As far as friends? Well................sometimes my judgement is really off.....
How good is yours?
Sorry...should have put this in "General" since it is just a general question...

It is so hard to judge in my field.... At the interview we have them sit in a classroom to see how they interact with the children....(then we ask the teachers they are with for their input)...then we interview them in the office. It must be exausting to put on such an act for two hours...
My only comfort is that they fooled the two owners too, not just me

Oh.......some are quite good at it.....they think they just have to get through the day and they're home and hosed/got the job. Pity they werent taken on a trial for say one or two weeks......then 2 weeks more.....before a definate decision was made. Sometimes people look just right for the job.......but they're really not! Dont ever blame yourself. Its a togh world out there.......and thats probably what she thought.......so was hanging in there for all she was worth.

As their boss, if it's something that is important to operations, call each in, say, these were my expectations, you knew that, and you have "X" number of days to bring it back arouind. If they're great with the kids-not so great with adults, and you.....weigh the benefits, but talk to them anyway. Nicely. I have had the same 4 close friends for almost my whole life. I like to make new friends, but if they end up being fake, it only hurts a little while after breaking it off...

there is a saying.. true friends are like diamonds precious but rare.. fake friends are like leaves in autumn found everywhere..
also good employees will prove their worth.. and be an asset bad employees will show their A_ _ in time.. and yes angel some people do professional interviews and tell you what you want to hear and do the exact opposite..( late all the time, hide when there is work to do etc) i have witnessed it..Sweet N Louisiana

I'd like to think I was a good judge of character.. it's not very often that I get fooled.. I've had the same close friends for 20 to 35 years..

Angel people can and usually behave different when they are on an interview than when they are under stress or on the job especially since they know they are being watched and judged .... Some people are good interviewees while they are not great at the job and some stink at interviewing and would be great at the job... As you know there is a lot of checks and balances one tries to adhere to when trying to hire a new employee but sometimes no matter what we think or do it just doesn't turn out the way we thought it would... don't beat yourself up too much... at least maybe you have some names from the original list to look back over if you decide to replace someone...

I am one of those that Naw mentioned. I am horrible at an interview, but give me a chance, and I will work circles around other people. I too have been fooled by people at an interview. (been on both sides too) So, stop beating yourself up Angel.
As for friends, I am the best, until I am deceived, then I am GONE. But when I have true friends, I will bend over backwards to be there for them. Not only does it hurt to loose a friend, but it hurts to be deceived by one too.

What you have to remember is in a preschool setting.....lots of younger girls in early 20s. Young people today do not the same work ethics as we were taught. They call out a lot, personal life effects their job and they have hissy fits.
I just can't have that around small children. Young girls are so emotional!

Never a truer statement made. Unless it would be to add they are also LAZY! (they don't like it when you point that out either) From a fellow employee, not a boss.

You are soooo right.
One of the girls said I "scare" her! Me....funny
I asked her to get up and take care of the children....I guess I spoke too "mom like" and sternly....

Baby, it has happened to me too. I hired an older woman once, for the company I worked for, who had lots of experience working for her husband. She had the skills I needed but couldn't get along with any of my team. She almost cost me my best employee. After her 90 day probationary period was up, she announced she had developed a disability and sued the company.
