I work as a clerk at a convenience store. With gas prices on the rise and the our paychecks haven't, if your gas pump went a few pennies over the amount of gas you just paid for inside the store. Would you go back in a pay the few pennies? Please be truthful. I will have to admit myself that I only do it about 5% of the time.
Just wondering.

Yes....and in OR we cannot pump our own gas. and if for some reason it has gone over the amount I asked for..I will pay the few cents. It all adds up. I will do this in a store if I am given too much change back...I think most people do.....

Very odd that they would go over a prepaid amount...I have never paid first and have the pump give me more...only at the older pump first then pay ones has that happened

Prepaying here won't allow you to go over the amount you've paid.

It is all credit/debit card or prepaid here now.
But in the old days, If I went over, I'd paid. It's stealing not to. IMO

That's never been an issue with me...whether it's 2 cents or 2 bucks, I'd go back in and pay it...and probably leave a few spare pennies in the "penny pot" next to the register while I'm at it.
(I've never seen a pump go over the prepaid amount though -- my guess is that it needs calibration)

I would always pay for what I got too MOM... but it just seems odd to have a prepaid pump give out more gas ??

Maybe it's an older pump and not able to be set.

I would pay the extra! Which reminds me, I went to this brand new convenience store the other day and topped off my tank, the darn pump would not shut off. I sprayed myself, got it on my face ouch, liquid gold was all over the ground. Guess what? I still had to pay for it. I cried that day over spilled gas.

I'd go back in and pay it.. it's stealing if you don't.. and I don't know if the store would get so picky about it and have you arrested for driving off without paying in full.. but I don't wanna take that chance.. you lose your license for that in NC

Here in Iowa it's "prepay" to pump just as if you were at a Brothel. There is a big difference, at a Brothel you out right know you're getting screwed. With both there is a question of morals.

Yes I would...I always taught my children that stealing was stealing..no matter what it is or how much. My daughter asked me why I was always so picky about that when they were growing up and I replied "How can I teach you not to steal or do wrong, if I don't set the right role model for you?"

Virtually all the gas pumps in my state are computer controlled and stop exactly on the penny. I have not seen a gas station in years that permits the patrons to pump the gas first then pay later. Everything here is prepay, prepay, prepay. If you want to "fill er up" you have to deposit more money with the cashier in the filling station then go back to get your remaining change after topping off.
Another thing..... we pump our own gas. I never see an attendant pump gas EVER

I live and work in some small towns here in south central Texas. There are some places that still let you pump, then pay. But not many. Most you have to leave a deposit, drivers license or do a whole pre-pay. I really dislike prepay--how do I know exactly how much it's going to be?

I'd certainly pay....but I always use a credit card so I don't have to deal with any of that on pumping gas. It is just like getting back too much change.....I give that back too & have even been known to give it to the manager & inform them they need to work with the clerk on counting back change.......

Until gas hit 4 bucks a gallon here, certain stations would let you pump then pay if you were regulars there.. I would just wave my debit card at the clerk and she would turn the pump on for me..

I just saw $4.02 here today. I filled up yesterday for $3.95. I heard we're getting a raise at school this year and I bet mine all goes to gas to get there!
If I get too much change and realize it, I give it back. Sometimes I just don't pay that much attention though. I try to be honest.
