Apart from never squat with your spurs on..lol
My Grandmother always told me that no matter what you want or need.. always make sure you keep the roof over your head... Even if you end up with nothing.. you always have a home.

When you have a really bad sore throat and cough, have hot tea with honey and lemon in it. The hot tea helps open you up, the honey soothes your throat, and the lemon helps get out the stuff.
If that doesn't work, add a shot of whiskey to each cup. After 3 or 4 of those, you might not feel any better, but at least you won't care anymore.
Oh, and don't do this and then drive, please!
Courtesy of my Irish Grandmother on my Mom's side of the family. I don't really remember her, but her sayings live on, and she was a hoot!

When I was a sophmore in highschool our wrestling team had to take on a neighboring town that was always a tough one to win.The boy I had to wrestle was the returning state champion so to save some team points I remember my coach telling me to just not let him pin me and I will have won the match for the team.
After the match I was known as the only guy who knew how many lights were on the ceiling of that gymnasium because I was on my back for over 5 minutes looking at them... but he couldnt score 6 points for a pin.If he had our team wouldve lost by one point instead of winning by one.He only got 4 team points for beating me 21-2. 
Maybe that wouldnt seem a most valuable piece of advice my coach gave me at the time but after learning the strength of the willpower that I had it helped me to believe in its strength and use it throughout life.
