Have you ever received an unsolicited, rude response from someone you don't communicate with regarding a comment you left on a blog or even in a forum thread?
If so, how have you chosen to deal with it?

some people seem to have been raised by wolves, and lack social skills....

oops... wolves do have social skills... and the wrong social reaction in the pack gets the throat ripped out...

I put that person on my blocked list, and ignored them.

If the behavior continues, refer it to the Moderators.

I've not had that happen (in fact, I consider myself fortunate on the rare occasion that the OP acknowledges any comment I make)...however, I can't imagine doing any more than sending such a response to the trash (assuming it arrived via mail).

As I've often said, outside of the general respect I have for humanity as a whole...

I have to know you, to respect you.

I have to respect you, to give your opinion more than a passing glance (particularly if your initial approach is rude, or otherwise inflammatory).

Yes, I felt the email I received was rather rude & I have been debating whether to respond or just let it go....considering the source....but I do have a few things I'd like to convey to the person....it's just not really my style....hence my curiosity at how others deal in such a situation.

Thanks to those who have responded!

I'd egg their house. Let's do it this weekend. I have a few other stops to make on the way there.

Ohhh, bring your dog, three balloons, and a roll of duct tape.

Or, just block em' they obviously have some sort of esteem issues.

I got an e-mail that I think was a response to my "Offensive" quiz. It said something like "has it occurred to you that you're not offensive, but just stupid?"

I said "Yes...then people like you come along and remind me of what a f*ckin genius I am"

^^^^^

I guess I'll just save my letter in my drafts & see if it progresses.
The party involved seems to have tons of drama already started on the site between having fake pictures posted & harassing people left & right.....among other things. To try & hurt my feelings more, I was told how happy they were to have removed me from their friends list some time back, but the fact of the matter is, I have a request from this very person sitting dormant in my request box in order that I'll never receive another one!

Happy posting everyone!

People like that deserve no acknowlegement.
But I'd tell em off briefly, then block em!

People do that to me. I'll write something in a blog, they think it's about them, when I don't even know them, then they write me a hateful email. I just tell them thanks and keep on smiling, or have a great day!

I find that a good old-fashioned public hanging usually stops the rude behavior.

Well, it would.

Seriously, I think a nicely worded response, free of excessive obscenities, that conveys how you feel in a concise, intelligent manner is a good solution.

And if they keep up the crap, just block 'em and forget 'em.

Have you ever received an unsolicited, rude response from someone you don't communicate with regarding a comment you left on a blog or even in a forum thread?

seldom.....in that case I try to read between the lines
Is that a reproach ?
was I not clear ?
could I offend someone ?
or simply that someone hasn't understood me.....

so I try to eplain myself and clear again my points.......and if she/he is very very rude and unknown for me.... I leave it ....I don't give too much importance
