I am over 50 and recently lost my job, could use some suggestions. I am the creative type, probably why I feel antsy in offices yet that is what I know, word processing, I'm really good at it. I also love nature. Just not sure where to go from here. All ideas are welcome.
Thanx guys!

I am in a similar quandary although I am currently employed. I did see this coming a few years ago and enrolled in college again after a 20 year departure. Now I will be graduating with a computer degree in about 6 months and my choices will be greater than they have ever been before.
I would suggest that you add to your job skills in a formal sort of way. I don't know what direction you may like to take but there are certification classes for just about anything you can think of.
Good luck!

Awwwwwwwwwww Lune--sorry to hear about the job loss. I really don't have any suggestions. It's been a long time since I looked for a job. In a few years, I'll be looking for something part time but I know that's a totally different thing. Good luck, sweetie!

Do you have a "Michael's" craft store there? Or a wedding planner bridal shop

Aw LuniBabe...not again.
You might go to some doctors and lawyers offices and ask who the use as their medical/legal transcriptionists and see if you can hook up with them at least as a fill-in part time. (Only because that's a proven skill you can prove and use if you have to)
I'd hoped by now you'd have found a niche -- and an outlet -- for your creativity. ~sigh~ with the way the economy is lately, unfortunately fewer people are apt to be spending money on aesthetics and 'optional' products and services.
Best of luck again...and if I come up with any bright ideas, I'll pass them along. But right now, I'm plumb out of 'em. (I still think you'd have been good in Real Estate -- then again, you'd probably have been in the same boat now, considering the market and economy )

You could try a temp agency, that's what some people with office skills are doing here.
A friend of mine found mcdonald's jobs are filled with people who want to keep them, now, and the app list was very long indeed. :(

Start developing a portfolio of all of your past occupations. Also concurrently develope a list of the things that really interest you and things that you like to do thoughout the year. Make another list of goals and dreams that you have accomplished so far, and the new goals and dreams you have.
See if you can cross reference these things on the internet or by networking with friends and family or in social gathering places. Always keep a copy of your current resume online in an e-mail queue to be sent on command or you may keep it on a flash drive key chain to download it at the nearest available computer when requested.
Building good relationships with people works well when you find something in your history in common with the person whom you are trying to impress. Bringing up a fact that you have some common ground shows that at least you are trying to win them to favor you.
Do lots of homework about the occupation or the place where you are applying. Some occupations require some of the skills used from your previous occupation(s) but may not be strictly limited to what they expect from you.
Don't claim to be an expert at something which you only have limited experience, it's better just to say that you have some experience.
Most important is to have a passion to find a new job and talk about it with many people. Coming online with this thread was a very good decision.

I'm in the same predicament having lost my job this week... thank you for starting this thread and to all of you that have posted some great ideas! I'll be taking some time to evaluate what it is I really want to do instead of just going out there and landing another "job". Considering taking some classes, applying for a grant... taking some odd jobs in the meantime to keep me occupied so I don't "slip" into old behaviors

Anyone who likes animals can look at a site called fetchpetcare.com--they are currently recruiting older folks for the jobs as we are more mature and responsible. I know nothing about the company but saw it in my AARP magazine. I think you can find full or part time dog walking and pet sitting jobs.
