When I was young, I was on the receiving end of a lot of bullying behavior from other kids. Some of it might have possibly been my fault; at this late date I couldn't really say, but sometimes it was just to be mean spirited.
So my question is; Were you ever bullyed? Or on the other hand, were you then one who was the bully? If either is yes, can you perhaps explain why it happens? I know the destructive side of it, and I know that the media sometimes protrays bullies (ok how do you make bully plural? )

Yep. I was bullied. I wasn't fat, I was skinny. The skinny little kid with glasses. The one all the teachers liked (except the coaches, of course) and the kids hated.

The first time I found out there were bullies was when I was about 4 or 5 and when I rode my bike around the corner for the first time I saw some kids so I stopped to say hi. They immediately squished an ice cream cone on the top of my head and started pounding on me...I learned to fight back after that

The bullys I knew as a kid were only attention seekers because they only tended to bully when they had an audience and thought who they were bullying were easy prey. They seek fear for themselves so to stop a bully I found you needed to never show fear no matter how much less physical you might be.
Standing up to a bully has only one downside, you might very well lose that battle physically but its the mental win on that bully that gives you the best chance to stop theyre intimidation. I was usually one of the smallest kids in school so I had plenty of bigger kids that would test my fear.I can remember sitting in study hall one day and nailing the biggest bully in our junior high with a spitball in the back of his head. I can also remember the desks he shoved out of his path to get back to my desk for the pounding.
The teacher stopped him just before he got to me and sent him to the principles office.Knowing I would be pulverized meat after school that day I got the teacher to let me go to the office. I walked in and told the principle what I had done so he told the big kid to go back to study hall and then gave me my punishment...which was nothing because he knew the kid was a bully and was shocked at what I had done.
He never bullied me again after that caper.

I have found that people who have to always put others down, (bully them) usually do so because of their insecurity of what they feel their value is....(low self esteem) If I feel I am being bullied, I just consider the source......and then just laugh......I am not pointing any fingers here......just answering the question.

I was bullied terribly....for being fat, for being smart, and for being different.
I received death threats and eventually, attempts on my life. School was hell. Two other kids with my fate with a weaker will and no respect for human life were named Eric and Dylan. That is how bad it was.
