Hmmm, I was thinking about another thing too since you mentioned spark plug wires.
How about the spark plugs? Are they properly gapped? What would really suck is if you were forced to change out the (ICM) Ignition Control Module, or (TFI) Thick Film Ignition. But hey.... I've had to do that with those 1980's cars.
If everything else fails then just sell your a car to a used car dealer so that he can sell it to some naive smuck, then go out and buy yourself a newer car.

The computer will tell you if there is a fault code, but it most cases will not tell you what caused it, Disconnecting the battery for 1 minute will sometimes provide a temporary fix. The most common cause for the car to run hot and set a fault code in the computer is the oxygen sensor. Have your oxygen sensor checked. Former GM mechanic!
