I live in the Tampa bay area of central Florida , and last year, starting from the spring when we started to hit the 90's, to the fall when we started to leave the 90's, was 7 months. That’s 7 out of 12 continuous months in the 90's every year, and I consider the 90's to be summer like weather. 20 years ago in this area we had a real winter and summer only lasted about 5 and a half months, but global climate change is taking its effect on this area. How long do summer like temperatures last in your area?

Warmer temps...meaning 50's and 60's begin in April in MA. May can bring anywhere from 60-80, and June begins true summer weather with high 70's- low 80's and an occasional day in the 90's. (rare, but sometimes a two week stretch of 90's anytime from June to August) Summer can be humid here, being that we're so close to the coast. And right now, September, it's turning fall. It's warm during the day, summery, and a little cooler at night. By Oct. 1st, the heat will have to go on, at least to take the chill off the house. The days will still be warm. Clear, dry, sunny. By Halloween, the leaves are off the trees. Nights are longer. Temps are turning colder. November begins the real winter. Gray and darkish until the end of March. Winter lasts a smidgen too long.

This has been a strange summer. Really hot at first, but it started cooing off the middle of August. That's really strange for Oklahoma.

Moms, I almost forgot about that. It was actually sorta cool for a day or so in August. That is just weird in New Orleans - the absolute hottest month for us.

Last night the low was 59 and tonight it is to be 57, but the days are in the mid-80's. Here in the mountains of NC we are entering "Indian Summer", where it reminds us that fall is approaching. Already my poplar trees on the other side of my horse pasture are turning yellow at the very top. According to when the first kadydid was heard this summer on July 16, we can expect our first frost 3 months later on Oct. 16. This is just one of the mountain oldtimers' predictions and they are usually right on the mark!

Jankia is in a similar climate to the one I'm in...
we can have frost as late as the middle of June, and as early as September..
I've seen 6 inches of snow fall on Memorial day week end, and on Halloween of 1990 I saw 30 inches of snow fall, and then it was -10°f to -20°f for the high temps in the next month....
June, July and August is summer...
in the winter here, there have been times where it got cold enough that propane wouldn't evaporate in a tank outside to supply gas for the stove or furnace....

I love the seasons here on the western slope of the rockies. Almost perfect weather for me except that I'm not a "hot" weather person, but the heat of the summer (90's & above) only lasts for about 6 weeks beginning about mid-July through the end of August. Even then our mornings are comfortable.
I was raised in the midwest and don't remember the summers being unbearable, but when I moved my kids back there (from southern CA) they couldn't deal with the humidity. Although I lived in southern CA for 24 years, I never got used to the summer heat. I always felt like I was walking into an oven when I walked out the front door. 70 degrees at 6:00 am is just too much for me.

Summer generally starts in May, goes pretty much through October. Winter is generally a couple of weeks in January, with fall and spring filling in the blanks.
Monsoon is over finally, and we're back in our dry heat again - 108 degrees today, but near zero humidity so it doesn't feel nearly as bad as it sounds. We also have flowers year round, and come February-March, the scents from the citrus blossoms are dizzying.
Definitely different from Noo Yawk - you don't have to shovel sunshine and snow is just another four letter word.
Pat - it's certainly different strokes...I love that blast of heat, especially when I leave my over-airconditioned office at lunch time...it's sheer bliss for me. Of course cool mountain mornings are great too, but that's a 2-hour ride away, and I wake up in a sleeping bag....different kind of bliss!

In So Cal, summer lasts until just after the Rose Bowl. Then we have a couple of weeks of rain and overcast, and spring begins along about Valentine's Day.
