Posts: 1,505 As much as we love to hate lawyers, I often wonder if they are in fact a benefit to our country.

I ruminated about this question as I read this story:

Egypt Voices: Sexual Harassment

Even in America, such men would probably not be imprisoned (though they would almost certainly be arrested). Even if they avoided jail time, however, they would face a slew of harassment lawsuits and negative publicity. The ratio of lawyers is much greater in America than it is Egypt, but at the very least this forces our society to revise, reform and defend our laws. This in turn allows American women to be far more productive than Egyptian women. It is certainly true that our legal system is frequently abused, but this account reminds us that it is certainly better than the alternative.
