Still summer weather down here in central Texas. Highs in 90s, lows in 70s. One morning we'll wake up and it'll be winter--we usually skip fall!
Hey Moose! I worked up at Lutsen Resort for a year or so and knew Grand Marais well.

Slowly starting to show signs here. Days are becoming more overcast, daylight is noticeably shorter, & the leaves are changing fast. Oh... & the flannel sheets went on the bed too last week.

Temp when I left for work this morning was 64!!!!!!!! Yippee, we're getting into prime time here!
If all goes as planned, SO and I will be camping up in the North country next weekend - I don't think it's hit freezing there yet, but it's come close. Gonna be a real shock to our systems - highs under 100 are something to celebrate here, and we're just starting to hit those temps the last week or so.

the ominous gray sky is back shrouding the mountains across from my home
it was down into the 30's last night but no sign of frost this morning
there's been snow in the high country, i can see fresh white on the peaks over 8000'
i love watching the leaves fall into the breeze that carries them much like the flight of a butterfly before they tumble into the water of my back yard
i fired up the wood stove yesterday, maybe a bit to early, although it was cozy in the evening.....
my bedroom was over 80 this morning

It's been a little chilly during the night here in Western North Carolina too, 40 most mornings.
I love the fall, my 100 yr. old Red Maples in the front yard are turning.....guess what color?....yep,red   . I love walking the dogs around the place and hearing the dry leaves crunch under our feet. Saw a momma squirrel move her almost fully grown babies up into my thick woods, carried them one at a time in her mouth, she knows Winter is coming and took command of those youngins even if they were almost as big as her! 
No frost yet, but according to the old timer's we'll have our first frost 3 months after we heard the first kadydid this summer. I keep tabs of that one every year (and it's pretty accurate), so we should get one on Oct. 16, within a day, one side or the other.

Cool mornings, comfortable days in the 70's. Perfect sleeping weather, crack the window and snooze!  I didn't pay enough attention this year to the things I watch for to see what winter will be like, but I do remember seeing squirrels by my work laying up a good supply of food this year.. have to watch and see.
By the way, Gman, I want to thank you for your beautiful descriptions! I could close my eyes and see the images you were describing. Wonderful! Many thanks! 
Keeno, thank you to you as well. Perhaps you two should consider writing on the side, you both have a gift for words that create wonderful mental images that are very relaxing!

Yep, after 28+ years of listening to the old timers around here, I've got it down pat (at least the nature stuff), but I still can't figure out why it makes a difference what time of month you stick a fence post in the ground......

Yep I was right summer aint over here.. 94 today and it will only slightly cool over the weekend  couple more weeks of unseasonably warm
