I have been known to spontaneously wink at a guy now and then and immediately afterward think, "Did I just do that?" I'm not sure if my winks have been in response to a smile, in agreement to something said, or a simple acknowledgement of, "You literally caught my eye.!"
Winks are interesting. The various ways people view "winks" is interesting. I know winks have been open for discussion before, but the effect of winking was just recently brought to my attention again.
What are your thoughts? Do different generations look at "winks" in a differnt light? I happen (ovsiously) to like winks. To me they are a non-threatening, welcome, sign of approval or appreciation. They can be used to open a door or simply be given as a gift with no return expected.

Many of the profiles specifically express a distaste for winks so I have refrained from doing so. It will be interesting to hear the consensus. Perhaps winks are from a simpler time when the worst thing a girl encountered was a pinch.Of Course, I would be thrown in jail if I ever did that today. Not that I would////just saying.

I have had several tell me that they ignore them, but i agree with you
are a non-threatening,
I use them to send to my friends just to let them know i am thinking of them and I send them to others just to put a smile on their face and if it doesn't then no harm done!!!
As for real life ....I can't say that I see much of it going on ....but my teenagers think its a big deal when the boys at school wink at them . ...lol

I agree with you 100% on this topic.....
Wonder about Mrs. Palin winking during a debate or some public forum ?
Personally I see nothing wrong with a little flirting as long as there are good intentions involved.....
Just not sure if its wise for a Presidential candidate.... [e57]

I think they're outdated. No one in my generation really does that in real life, that I know of.
On a dating site, I think winking is the equivalent to the "flirt" on Social Me. It's kinda like "you're cute, LOL"....and communication can happen, or it doesn't. I'm ambivalent about it.

I usually wink at my friends on here...When I'm bored I'll do it all day till I run out of them...
I am pretty upfront though, so if I liked someone here I would just skip the wink and tell them. I think you cute. I have a crush on you, etc...

Pat, are you referring to actual winks, or winks here on the website.
I find that I will also just spontaneously wink, but usually it's at a child peeking at me from the next booth over. I have done so at men after there's been a bit of banter back and forth, so usually he's aware that I'm already into him. It usually gets me a kiss by the end of the night.

MT - oh just winks in general.
My original thought was winking "in person" -- a "real life" wink. Winking at men I don't know. Not as a "come-on" just a wink.
I send winks in here, too. Both to guy & gal friends. They make for a nice quick, "Hi" or to guys I don't know - "Hey you caught my eye."

I have winks from a lot of my friends here. We had a "wink fest" at one time.
Winking is a form of flirting too. I did find out that some people can't wink without using both eyes though!

I like when my guy is across the room having a conversation, and I'm in my own conversation, catching his eye, and giving him a wink. I guess in my world, a wink is something of a sexual nature. Not as sexual as a pinch on the bottom, but more of the cerebral side of sexy.

I think winks are fine and will occassionally send them to people that I find interesting or cute. However...it is annoying when people send winks followed immediately by an email...just send the email...why both?
I do wink at my friends on occassion...especially if I have missed them in the forums for a few days or haven't seen them online...I know it sends a message to their regular email...just a way of saying "HI"...
Just not sure if its wise for a Presidential candidate There's a political thread for these comments. I'm sure everyone there would love to hear your political opinions.

I rarely send a wink and usually just to my friends. I get winks that I used to always thank people for and yet they do not respond to my email or they do this big come on so if I do not like someone, I have stopped thanking everyone for their winks.
If a friend winks, I wink back.

Oh.... I forgot about the note re the "pinch"..... WHOLE DIFFERENT BALL GAME! A "pinch" not only enters "my space" it is in direct violation of my body ! Without permission!
Speaking of a different ball game -- Any man touching my body without permission, best beware what might happen to his own body parts.
I'd have to admit - I think "winks" are a little out of line in the political playing field. But then again.... like I said, too.... sometimes I've winked (in person) without so much as thinking about it.... just as a natural response.
