I have a friend that attends 12-step metting because he is mandated to do so by the courts. He is playing the game. And I suspect that he is still dealing. He goes to meeting to pick women up. I know quite a few people, guys and girls, that attend the meeting for that sole reason. They don't really believe the stuff they are saying at the meetings. Yet, they still join in and say it works. Why ?

You started your thread talking about your "friends and picking up chicks" ....but yet it leads to you...and why isn't this in the religious threads??????????????????????? Always about You!! Ugh!!

Where's the MODS when you need them...UGH!! They don't exist.

i swing and tap dance is that good enough for the 13 steps ?
oh yeah another thing , proly most religious figures get ofended by this but , i dont really beleive a so called GOD would ask us t kneel before him , not atleast a loving and caring god like most say.
I dont see a god who is willing to help out someone get away from the boose and at the same time allows children to have unger, get women raped, killed by drunk ass drivers, etc etc.
lets just say i got a beef with such god, and i converted myself to my own god, not an egocentric one but one that actualy works for what i wanna get, and by that call i kneel before none pedestal claiming to be a spit image of GOD itself.
its just insane to see things in a perspective and not being able to look on our side and see how cruel such a god can be.
aight?

That's not God, That's Satan also named Lucifer...an angel that was exiled from Gods kingdom

I blamed God for killing my son in the tractor accident for weeks after....then I had come to my senses and realized God didn't kill my son, He seen something Horrific happen to my son and He reached down and wrapped His Loving Arms around him and took him to Heaven with Him.
\That's My God!
Again, this should be in the religious forums...JMHO!!

There's a lot more in the op than just my friend picking up chicks. And you asked me some questions and I answered. Who else am I suppose to answer for, if not me ?

This thread is not in the religious thread because it's not just about religion.

Then, there's the legal aspect of violating people right to freedom of religion, separation of church and state, and all the case where the 12-step fellowship has been determined to be religous. It bothers me that the fellowship ignores all of this. It also bothers me that they read the same print outs over and over. That's cult like to me. It seems like they are trying to brainwash folks

Not about religion, huh?? Yes, your OP stated your friends, guys and girls going to AA to pick up chicks/guys, then you go on to bash religion.....so basically what you're saying now is that "I" could start a thread about something and sneek religion in there, and just bash away, right? If you can do it, then so can the rest of MD.

Get off your soap box already!

Hey, we've been through this one before, and I take it personally. My son's been in AA for over five years now and still doesn't belong to any religion at all. He finds the support he needs in the cameraderie there, not in any religious belief....and he's not had a drink since he started, so it worked for him.

It may not have worked for you, but it has for others, and several of them are people I call friends, in addition to my son. If it doesn't float your boat, fine, but saying that it requires a religious belief is BS, as none of those I know are religious.

Go your own way, but don't keep trashing something that has worked for others, and may work for some readng here who may find help they need there.

Gee this sure went off the deep end fast!

I really thought it was about some idiot cruisin for emotionally handicapped women.

I missed the religeon all together.

Sure fire cure for addictions.................. prison. Works for awhile anyhow and OBTW - they get plenty of bible thumpin as well. I call it the 2 fer. Plenty of websites out there for your friend if he's really searching for addicted women.

If this was really about religeon well I guess if AA works - which it does for some I admit then who has the right to bash it out? Truth is..... nothing - I repeat - nothing works untill the person chooses that it will.

I would like to present a education thread on the steps, as I see them.

Some of the post will be pro-12-step, other will not be.

One thing I can promise is that, what ever I post, it will be as honest as the principles say I have to be.

Funny how people choose to ignore the things they read that don't support their going off on a person without cause.

Every time I come here to post something positive I find that someone would rather argue about what I've posted, just being honest, than what they believe.

I don't get it.

In 12-step meeting I will disagree with somethings I hear, and some I won't. What I don't agree with I don't start an arguement with the person who said it over it. I have some legitimate concerns with the present status of the 12-step fellowship in the recovery field. And, as you can see from the videos, I'm not alone. In my mind, it seems a little cult-like when an organization, or it's participants, are not big enough to take a little honest feedback , meant to be constructive criticism. It's how I process things. I investigate, I consider all the things out there about a organization, then I make up my own mind.

It's not going to pursuade me that the 12-step fellowship is a organization I should be proud to belong to, so long as it's only ok to say what the people in the organization want to hear. It's not the least bit compelling for a person to claim that the 12-steps "saved my life", if they act like they are so miserable that they can't tolerate a difference of opinion. That's not recovery. It's hiding from the truth, holding on to resentments, and quite possibly looking for a reason to relaspe.

I don't know who people think they are dealing with here. I attend meetings, I know enough about the fellowship to know what's acceptable and what's not. And what I'm reading here, is not representative of the fellowship; at least not the meeting I go to. In those meetings I'm allowed to speak my mind.

Whine, Whine, Whine! Seems like everytime you post something, it's negative about race, religion, or the government! Grow up! Oh, and I won't post anymore to your threads, then you won't have to worry about someone critizing you.

I, too have been to meetings. I don't know how they do it in your neck of the woods, but here in our smaller rural communities, It works!!

It worked for my brother in law, who isn't at all religious. He just said to let that go, the point is to quit abusing substances.

If it doesn't work for you, then you must find another path.

Getting them to alter or stop the way the program is run doesn't sound doable...

Good Luck, whatever you choose to do!
