Well, in my actual opinion...there are certain things you do take seriously, the rest can go out with the trash...same as life, actually. You pick and choose what you care about. There's no way you could actually care about everything, it's too exhausting.
Now, granted, in the forums there does seem to be much more trash than actual keepers...but it's all good for a laugh.

I get that there are (usually?!  ) real people behind the screen names and the sometimes vitriolic, sometimes saccharine, sometimes genuinely sweet posts, blogs, e-mails, and chat banter...and I respect that on many levels.
But, my life has always been in the 'real world.' At least, my investment in my life...
Though I've never made it my resolve to avoid 'net-based friendships, I'm not one to put out there the sorts of things that friendships are often based on. I've seen the drama that is so often the perpetual shadow for (some of) the more 'invested' people...knowing what I do of human nature, that's not a malady I care to invite into my own life.

my take on it is...part of it is..part of it is a joke too... it just depends on the time and place and what's being said to whom....
everyone is here for different reasons... but the one thing we all have in common is the wants/needs/desires for interaction with people... 
saying that... some of you who always say they are joking around ..and take nothing serious..are only lying to yourselves.. . and hurting others in the process... 
the key to taking this thing of ours seriously (for me.)..
to the next level beyond internet buddies is...
( done in tribute to the one and only LMD  )
is...are you ready....here it is...
If I (want to) talk to you on the phone.....which means taking the relationship to the next level of ..putting a voice to the profile....

I have met some wonderful folks here who I do take serious and their lives are of interest to me.. they are no different than those who I see day to day.. but those are a select few I am talking about.. to say you cannot make REAL friends online just shows me that you do not know HOW to make friends .. or how to be one.. and to be one online or in day to day offline life one must actually take SOMETHING serious yanno??
