It's opening morning of gun deer season here in WI.
Barely daylight and already hearing gunshots...
Are there any hunters in here, and if so, do you have any "deer stories" to share, or hunting or fishing stories to share with us?
I shot my 1st buck back in 1999...it was a 10 pointer...went to the bar afterwards, of course...isn't that the best part of hunting..showing off your trophy! Oh, and going to the bar...
I gave my rack to the boys...it's hanging in Matt's room now. My brother was going to mount it, but it took him years...so I just got it back from him for the wake actually...He gave me his very 1st buck rack also, from bow hunting, for Jason. I thought that was the sweetest thing.....Ok, OT...

in portugal its phorbiden to have guns like in US. but hunters use 3 shoot beretta shotguns. my favorite story is when i embarace 2 uncles when hunting, both of them empty theyr shotguns against a pigeon and miss the 6 shots i used a bee-bee gun with cal. 5.5 mm and hit the damn pigeon in the eye i was never invited to hunt with them again
hunting season started here already but most people are quiting hunting mostly due to excessive phorbiden zones to hunt, high quotas for private reserves and the new law on guns and hunt is keeping hunters at home. new law states we cant even own a bee-bee gun without a hunter/sport license. i pay 200€ for a good BB gun and governament says i have to pay 1000€ a year just to have it. so i quited aswell, the money we put into guns is not worth the fees we pay to use them, and not much game we can hunt around in free areas.

Sounds like the 4th of July here...fireworks!!
I use either a 10 gauge or 12 gauge when I hunted.....
When the kids were little, we had a rooster that used to chase them. I never believed it until it chased me one day. I grabbed the nearest thing I could find, which just happened to be a 2x4 a wolloped him across the head...(husband hollaring at me..."You'd better go boil some water, for chicken soup tonight". That damned rooster laid in the same spot for a week, when he finally did get up and walk around, his head was crooked and could only see out of one eye.
A week later, he was back to chasing the kids, cockeyed and all...I told my friend who was there visiting, I'll take care of that bastard once and for all....Grabbed the closest gun (which just happened to be a 10 gauge from the gun cabinet out of the mud room) went out on the porch and "BAM" it only took one shot, of course feathers were flying everywhere Wasn't much left of the rooster either

now that would have been one messy chicken. Saw a guy shoot a ground squirrel, during deer season, with a 30-06 one time, nothing left of the poor creature. they guy just got bored and shot the first thing he saw.

That's the worst...the boredom!
I don't have the patience to go hunting anymore. Oh, and I'm too loud!
Just got up and went into the kitchen...it's snowing out now...so much for it being sweatshirt weather...but the hunters will love it, easier to track now!!

okay long story here, forgive the spelling and grammer or it will take me all day.
Was hunting with my ex father-in-law years ago and we had been in the woods several hours when I heard several shots from where he was hunting. Decided to drift over that way and see what was going on and I as I worked my way through the woods I heard him shouting my name. Well I hurried up thinking maybe something had happened to him. Got there and he was almost jumping up and down he was so excited.
He had seen this deer through the brush, we had permits to take either sex deer, and he took careful aim on the animal and fired, when he looked after firing the deer was still standing there so he shot again. When he looked after the second shot the silly animal was still standing there, so he thought, so he took aim and fired a third time. This time when he looked he could not see the deer. He waited a few minutes and then worked his way throught the brush to where the deer shoul be if he had killed it. Imagine his shock and surprise to find not one, but 3 deer down. It seems as he had shot each one they had jumped once and then gone down and another had taken there place.
Needless to say we each tagged one and hurried up and found my brother-in-law to tag the third one before a game warden came upon us. Would never have believed it if I had not seen the results with my own eyes. True story.

i dont like to use buckshots, i prefer using bullets instead, they dont spread and when they hit they dont make a mess. i used a .110" once against a sparrow, i shot the damn bird about 5 feet up on the tree, there was nothing left not even feathers for the cats single bullet guns are phorbiden here (F"#$$ the politics) if you wanna hunt a wild boar you better be prepared to run while your friends keep shooting at the pig i done remarcable things with only a bb-gun but the funniest and incredible story i seen was when i was at the marine corp. on the shooting range we were practicing some new toys when drill instructor told us to use the old standard machine gun ( 7.62 mm G3 ), at the begining of the exercise we were suposed to shoot while standing and the drill sarge. would go one by one and we would shoot 3 rounds against the targets one of those guys didnt noticed he had the gun on full auto so he pressed the trigger but somehow he wasnt able to hold the gun kick and the gun started empting the whole clip (20 rounds) while pushing the gun back, the guy landed on hes back and the gun nozzle stoped right in front the drill sarge face. looking back i think drill sarg shit himself up

Grew up in a family of hunters - for my 5th birthday I got my first gun - other girls wanted barbies - not me! My grandfather loved rabbit (which we ate alot of growing up) and that is what he wanted for Christmas dinner, so every Christmas morning we would get up and see what Santa Claus had brought us, then my grandfather, dad, brother & I would go and get Christmas dinner. When we got home and cleaned the rabbits, we would continue opening gifts!
My first deer was an 8 pointer when I was 12 - certainly an experience you never forget. I don't have the patience anymore either - or anyone that enjoys it like I do to go with. Sorta takes the fun out of it if after an hour of being out there all you hear is "how much longer are we gonna be out here".
Indiana gun opened last weekend - lots of deer in trucks this week - seen a couple I would have liked to have thrown in my truck!

Yes, GH, I agree now....I can't tolerate the wild game taste now, since I've gotten older, and when I was married, it's bascially all we ate...bla...it does get old after a while. Now the venison saugage and jerky...I can eat that!

We used to make our own also when the kids were little. They loved it!! The x hubby used to make a batch plain for the kids and then marinated ours....it was pretty good.
Now he takes it to the locker though. It's ok, as long as he pays
