Hi Miss Ponie!
I am not a hunter but one thing does sort of occur to me here...
Seems to me that if you can HEAR gunshots while in your home.......
Well...there is just something a little worrisome about that....
Maybe it's just me!

Awww honey!
Thanks so much sweetie for being concerned. I'm 3 blocks from the Mississippi River bottoms, and that is where all the big bucks are.
No worries sweetheart, I'm ok!!
Thank you so very much for being concerned honey

Hunting is barbaric. Im way too sensitive to do anything like that. Is that what you said to the deer before you shot his tail off? lol

Iowa has bowhunting.
I could never and won't, hunt. Killing another living thing is not in my nature.
My brother does, and I think the meat is gross anyway.

Two guys go hunting. Jerry has never gone hunting while Joe has hunted all his life. When they get to the northern Wisconsin woods, Joe tells Jerry to sit by a tree and not make a sound while Joe checks out a deer stand. After he gets about a quarter of a mile away, Joe hears a blood-curdling scream. He rushes back to Jerry and yells, "I thought I told you to be quiet!" Jerry says, "Hey, I tried. I really did. When those snakes crawled over me, I didn't make a sound. When that bear was breathing down my neck, I didn't make a peep. But when those two chipmunks crawled up my pants leg and said, 'Should we take them with us or eat them here?' I COULDNT KEEP QUIET ANY MORE!!!"

i got my first rifle when i was 10. living out on the prairie my cousin and i would shoot gophers for bounty. tails in one county would bring 3 cents and in another county right front foots would bring 2 cents. we would use the money to buy more ammo.
we all hunted deer in season, but usually it amounted to driving around our fields in pickups and shooting the deer.....not much fun or sport.
the first year i was off the farm for hunting season, i got invited up to a "hunting shack" some folks owned in partnership west of duluth, mn. it was a primitive place way out in the woods. i got skunked on opening day. the next day we had fresh snow and had hiked all over the woods after breakfast. so we gather at the shack for lunch and to warm up. i had to use the facilities, which was a small building just behind the shack, a one seater. when i grabbed the roll of toilet paper someone said to take my rifle, "just in case." so i hike out there, get seated and prop open the door, "just in case," suddenly i can't believe my eyes, about 100 yds out i see a 4 point buck. i slowly shoulder my rifle, muffle the click of the safety with my glove and rested the gun on the door jam. a perfect shot. i can't finish the paper work before every one in the shack is out there wondering what the hell i'm shooting at. needless to say they didn't believe me. so i hike out into the snow and start field dressing the animal. i go back to the shack for help dragging him in, now they can tell i wasn't telling stories. 2 of the guys came out to get out the kill, they were so excited by the size of the buck they did all the work. they even hung it up on the 2 x 6 suspended between 2 trees so i could start skinning it.
i hunted 3 more seasons there with those guys. no one has shot one from the shitter since.....

I never got into hunting..I didnt want to set in the early mornings freezing my gonads'' off... It is much warmer in the house Plus I dont like anykind of Deer meat..just not my taste !
I have no problems with hunters..the population needs to be controlled..or all of the animals will get sick..lack of food, sickness..etc. And then they wouldnt be any !
I have a hard enought time not running them over around here driving

Hey, maybe someone here can tell me about these antlers. My father was a hunter (the kind who'd challenge himself by only taking one bullet with him Yep, he was a good shot. ) and we always ate what he shot (deer, caribou, warthog, white eared cobb/antelope...whatever, wherever we lived in the world).
I have 5 really cool racks that I want to mount on my antique ghost town building (workshop) but have never figured out the "points" that everyone counts. Is it from one side or both? And do the little "immature" sharp parts count?
I think this is from a Nevada mule deer (but could be wrong -- that's the only kind I've heard about, but I don't think they have the kind we had in Connecticut...the garden eating ones, white tailed deer/pests/cuties)
The door is 36 inches wide and the soda can is for reference. There's 7 big pointy parts (the fella was deformed ) and a couple of little forked ones near the skull...and bunches of pointy "warts" near the bottom. Is this something special or is it "standard"? It looks pretty big to me. ~grin~ it could be from a big old elk or reindeer, as much as I know. (Whatever, it'll look cool along with the smaller ones...the others have 6 to 8 points, total, and one rack that my sister got has a bunch more...makes for a great Christmas decoration wrapped with little white lights and a red nose, lol)

Oh! I thought white-tails were little.
Maybe my dad got that one in Vermont when we lived there.
myself i only hunt two legged man or woman who threatens my wild life Yep, I don't like anyone interupting my really wild life, either ...I wish I had a shotgun -- for buckshot --rather than a 30-30, though.

In the South, if you miss, they cut your shirt-tail off. Shooting deer, that is. I find venison very tasty, though the only deer I ever shot was a mercy killing...but the men in my family and circle of friends harvest them and share with me. Venison, if butchered and prepared and cooked correctly, can't be beat. It's a whole lot less fatty than beef, and, it's free. In a manner of speaking, it's free. Course, you gotta have your license, your guns or bows, ammo, the warm gear, the 4-wheeler or 4-wheel drive truck, etc, etc. I am saying this tongue-in-cheek, of course. To get venison around here, all you need to do is gaze across the field about sunset, or sunrise, aim, shoot, go get him. Or her. And don't get me started on bear-hunting!

I missed a 12 point buck in 74. I missed a fine 10 pointer in 75. After I couldnt hit anything with my shotgun...I quit shooting at anything.

^^^^^^What a true hunter does. Humane hunters mind about only wounding...especially if they can't track them down.
