I don't have an answer for this right now but it is a great question... something I plan on giving a lot of thought to. Thanks!

Sitting in front of the fire place with my true love.....watching the snow falling outside through the enchanting picture window as it is illuminated by the beautiful silver and blue christmas tree.

I'd like to keep it simple. A no fuss meal, good friends and an enormous stash of recreational drugs.
Merry Christmas to you ISW.

I WISH it could be less spending money, and more spending time.
A friend just gave me a GREAT idea! She said on Christmas Eve they have a "Christmas fight", where 23 of them bring a gift of 25-30 dollars, wrapped. Then they all draw numbers. Person number 1 picks a gift and opens it. Person number 2 can take that gift, or pick another. And down the line through number 23....She said a gift can only be taken 3 times, then it stays with that person. Sounds fun!

Loreli, we do that exact gift exchange at work every year. We call it "White Elephant" for some reason. Last year I got cold hard cash and this year I got a Starbucks gift card.
Other popular gifts have included a Chia Pet (ha!), instant lotto tickets (packaged with a 22oz Colt 45!), wine, digital keychain, etc. We always have a great time.

Oh yeah...as for the topic, I'd certainly like to see myself spending the holidays with my friends and family...and a significant other.

We call it "White Elephant" for some reason Probably came from the same root exchange that a bunch of my friends and I celebrate - same basic plan except it's not a boughten gift - it has to be a 'white elephant', something you have around, e.g. an opportunity to 'regift'!
It IS a lot of fun!
Er...what was the topic? Oh yep, well a bunch of friends and family on a cruise ship somewhere tropical - everybody healthy, happy and secure and dancing the night away sounds like something I'd love to see...

I dream of being home, with my mom and sister. I miss the three days of laughing and cooking our asses off in the kitchen. Eating half of what we are making and the phone calls to long distant family drunk off our hineys.

Dedicated to the man that I pray is in my future:
The kids are snug in their pj's and robes, ripping into gifts. Us parents are watching the festivities, drinking our coffee out of our cheesy Christmas mugs, while the little ones have hot chocolate in theirs...the hot chocolate they are NOT drinking. He'd give me a look, and I return a secret smile, sharing that moment. Safety and security abounds, knowing that all is right within the framework of our home, my family is safe and content. The Christmas tree will overlook it all with its lights.
The house will then be cleaned, we'd make the dinner together while the kids proceeded to break the toys they were just given, preparing for a evening shared with friends and family. The house will be filled with laughter, music, and chatter. Terrible games are then played, tearing the kids away from the holiday movie they were watching while the big people talked boring shtuff.
When it's all done, the mess in the kitchen kinda sorta cleaned, all the lights are turned down except for the Christmas tree, wrapping myself in his arms, gazing at the tree, my feet tucked up underneath, cuddled with him. I'd wiggle around, accidentally jabbing an elbow into his rib, until I can gaze up into his eyes...and then inform him how wonderfully blessed I am to have him in my life, and how thankful I am for all that I have and all that he's given me.

Another variation of the white elephant exchange is.......
A $5 gift, it cannot cost more then $5. Many use gag gifts, and some re-gift, if you get enough notice, you will be surprised at some of the cool things people come up with.

We did the same thing this year at school, only with cookies. Everyone brought 3 doz. cookies, 3 plates of a doz each (I put mine in baggies in a Santa stocking). And the same thing goes, the 3rd steal and the cookies are "dead", cannot be stolen again. We have a lot of fun with it.
As for future Christmases, I hope to be able to spend them up in Minn. with family.
