50 years ago, February 3rd, 1959, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, and Buddy Holly died.
Did the music die?
Not in the sense that more and more performers have come along to produce new songs and new sounds. But, their sound died. And, I think it was Buddy Hollies sound which has had the greatest impact:
Holly, Big Bopper, and Valens 50th Anniversary
A plethora of big-name musicians, including Elton John and Eric Clapton have held Holly up as a hero.
Paul McCartney once said: “At least the first 40 [Beatles] songs we wrote were Buddy Holly-influenced."
Bruce Springsteen has revealed: "I play Buddy Holly every night before going onstage. It keeps me honest."
The above quotes are quite a testimony to Holly's influence. Perhaps, it could be said he was for the era of Rock and Roll what Miller was to the Big Band and Louis Armstrong was to Jazz.
You can go to google and type in buddy holly on you tube to listen to: True Love Ways and a few of his other hits.
Hope you all have a great day.
PS: Based on McCartney's quote, can someone show how Holly's sound influenced the Beatles works? I don't hear it but there are perhaps subtle arrangements which some of you who are more musical could identify.

bump because buddy holly was perhaps one of the top talents in music of his day and what would have been produced had he lived, is difficult to say.

Gasoline was cheaper.
GMC pickups came with the V6 option engine in either 331 CID or 474 CID. Yes i did say V6.
Ford FE blocks were available by late that year of 59 for the first time in 352 up to 390 series CID for cars but not Ford pickups which still had to rely on the Yblock or inline 6.
A fair share of women still practiced and knew what marriage was and some Ladies actually existed for a little while after year 59, until the existing skank era began a tad later until today and so on.
Cars had better paint jobs.
If icebox refrigerators weren't grounded they could shock the crap out of you.
Claw foot bathtubs were common.
People had never heard of second hand smoke that was invented some time later from some persons imagination.
A human could actually go to a drive in movie.
There was more to do and more entertainment.
People most times actually taught their children to choose marriage and love above money.

If Buddy Holly had lived, I really think he would been rivaled Elvis as the king of rock and roll .... nothing against Elvis, but much of his success was based on looks and style .... Buddy was pure talent.
