The Fine Line Between On-Topic and Off-Topic

I can understand the reasoning for wanting to keep threads on topic. For instance, you don't want someone to throw in a recipe for chocolate cake into a discussion about whether or not Obama's birth certificate is legit. Pretty soon you'd have one thread encompassing all the discussions on the entire site, if every thread was a free-for-all.

But the fact is most discussion lends the way toward veering somewhat "off-topic." And those topics, though not directly related to the original topic, at least tie into the original topic. It's a shame threads have to get locked down in such cases, and it's difficult to discuss topics and not veer off to other subjects from time to time. It's a natural progression of conversation, and happens in "real life" all the time. When you're talking to another person, no one yells "FOUL! You're off topic!" if someone responds to a point made in the discussion that would naturally lead to such a response.

Oh well. Hey, anyone wanna share their recipe for chocolate cake here?

You know, once in awhile some of us have thrown in stupid silly remarks when discussions get heated. To try to make someone smile, laugh, take a deep breath.
It's when there is a serious or adult conversation going on, and it ends up with a page or 2 of moties, chat and smart aleck remarks that make it off topic.

There are so many "just for fun" threads here.
A handful of people think they are above the rules.

I really wish the personal slams would just stop. Most, if not all, of the people involved have never even met...

Katt, you are such a dear, dear friend

And I DO get irritated when threads are *hi-jacked* for pages & pages of moties & one to one flirting.... Damn, I must be getting old....

SOME flirting, here & there, once in a while .. Of COURSE, this is primarily a *dating* site ... But Come ON!! I just feel like posting, "Get a room!"

But I don't.
