I always thought corn was a vegetable. Now I'm confused again. I'm not going to cheat and look on the internet though.
Vegetable--and I'm stickin' to my answer--I think.

Corn is a GRAIN, corn fiber is indigestible. Corn contains a large amount of natural monosodium glutamate

Corn's a grain, because of its placement in the botanical family tree. You really don't want the entire explanation, lol, and I seriously doubt I could give it to you anyway, since it's been six years since I had a botany class. But it has more in common scientifically with maize, milo, millet, oats, and the other grassy-stemmed grains than it does with any veggie

I've come to think of it as a grrain too. I really don't like it when I'm served this as some sort of vegatable. To me it's not.
BTW, this was al inspired because I was eating some tortilla chips tonight. My wacky brain. Go figure.

It is a GRAIN. It is in more that you eat than you will ever know because it is in trace amounts in salt to make it pour, and high fructose corn syrup in a lot of products, also maltodextrin.
It is also genetically engineered these days, most all of it unless you get organic. It has SHELLFISH DNA in it among other things to make it resistant and grow hearty.

icq..its a great topic, not wacky at all. Corn in the farming market is quite a process in itself. Where I am from, the farmers had their corn fields divided up into stages. Corn was for grain to feed the farm animals and then corn growing at mature levels for human food then you have the corn flower and the corn oils. Its quite a process.

When you're eating broccoli, cauliflower, artichokes or asparagus, you're actually eating the undeveloped flower buds of the plant. In all bluntness, you're eating their pre-adolescent sexual organs! (Sorry, just had to mention...)
Also sorry to ICQ for the hijack...I'm the real deal when it comes to geekhood; words like monocot and raceme send shivers up my spine!
Okay, next useless bit o' info: tomatoes are closely related to nightshade; the vines, leaves & roots of both are poisonous. Actually, the seeds of tomatoes are slightly poisonous, but it would take a very large amount to harm a healthy human.

In my wild and crazy days (which may have ended last week) I can remember drinking some moonshine when I was in a dry county in Alabama...
They called it "corn liquor" = 100% GRAIN alcohol...
I hope that info helps... meanwhile, where's that jug?

Can I say both? Cause thats not really middle grounds, is it? I always consider it a vegatable because thats what its catorgorized as in the supermarket lol. But its good as a grain too.

Yes, sex organs. Now, I respect folks who stick to vegan diets for health reasons, but the argument against taking life seems to stop here. When you trade broccoli for a steak, you're thwarting the potential for millions of baby broccoli plants; with the steak, at least you're only doing in one cow!

I don't think of plants being alive in the same aspect as animals otherwise I'd be forced to not eat anything if I gave up plants also. Just my oppinion.

lol we actually had this discussion in Nutrition class last semester...general concensus was that its a grain..carbohydrate actually..that falls under the startch category,..that doesn't digest well..wish I could remember the name of that category but I can't..lol and my books are in my car..*( good place for them eh?)
lol I have to fess up...I thought it was a veggie in class..not a grain..but I was proved wrong
