It is just like any hair color. It may or may not look good with your skin tone. Ask our stylist and some friends if that grey tone you have looks good on you.
If I went all the way Salt and Pepper I'd try it, but I'm just slightly grey ick, so I dye it.

I have also been doing the dye thing for several years to cover the gray....I am just not ready to go there yet!
When mine started to grow out where my natural gray roots were showing my teenage son asked me if I was doing the "Bride of Frankensein Thing" (Brat!) I laughed and next day ran for the color.
In the summer mine really bleaches out, and you can't tell the blonde much from the gray...so I have also highlighted between colorings to stretch it out a bit.
You'll just have to play with it and see how you like it! There are so many different colors of highlights you now can choose from. Every think of coloring it all gray ?
You could also do one of those Photo touchup deals that photograhically shows your face with different hair colors and styles. That can be really fun. Good Luck!

I started turning Grey in highschool..( I think...I was a punk rocker back then so it wask kinda hard to tell..didn't have a lot of hair..and what i had was usually purple)
I started coloring my hair in highschool..I have let it go "natural" for me..but it's not for me..I like being the bright red boisterous me..so I color it..thoughI wouldn't mind a little Bonnie Rait streak in the front..
what you may want to try is just a wash vs. the permanent color and let your gray come back little at a time and see how you like it

That Bonnie Raitt streak sounds good, Aselune! That's what I had for a while, except my hair was mostly dark brown. I liked it!
The temporary wash is a good idea...in fact, so are all of these ideas. It's one of those tough questions for me, lol, because it seems like so many things are involved. Like, how much should I really care about looking older? Where does pride in appearance stop and vanity begin? Shouldn't a potential mate be more attracted to me more as an interesting person than as a cute young thing?
(Sigh) Leave it to me to get philosophically worked up over hair dye...

Oh oh, I've done it now, I've infiltrated "the woman's space". Before I try to escape from here alive and unscratched, I want to mention a few things:
1) You need to get a new boyfriend to spoon with you and pluck grey hairs from your head. (Ever see primates groom? They pluck lice from the heads of the ones they love and eat them, Get a boyfriend who likes to chew hair)
2) Go to the vitamin store and look for PABA, some say it reverses gray hair back to its original color.
3) I have some greys and I don't like looking at them. But I not gonna hide that or get a bald head.

I've never had to or chosen to dye my hair per se, but I do highlite because I think it adds depth and beauty to base color....maybe try some highlites as one person already suggested?....dyed hair seems so much more difficult to keep up, highlites may be easier??? not only to keep up but less cost to the texture of your hair???
Dunno. You can try a variety of things people have suggested and then just go with what feels most comfortable to you

I uploaded a photo tonight that shows just how grey my hair looks in just the right light. I'll put it up when it's approved.

A word of caution not exactly directly in answer to your question.
Premature gray hair which people often think is "just hereditary" may actually be linked to hormonal problems such as thyroid disease and/or autoimmune diseases, also some nutritional deficiencies such as iodine, copper, protein (especifically the amino acid tyrosine), several B-complex vitamins like folic acid, PABA, and pantothenic acid.
Such deficiencies can be brought on by too much stress, which puts a direct demand on most nutrients thus rendering them unavailable for "less important" body parts, such as skin, hair and nails. Cells called melanocytes which are in the hair follicle sometimes just go dormant and stop manufacturing pigment which is mainly made out of tyrosine, copper and iodine. Radically improving diet has restored hair to its natural color in many cases so I'd look into that if I were you.

I think it is waaaaaaaay cool, Sponge! Don't ever think of doing anything to it.
Nothing worse than over-colored hair. On men or women.

My family greys early. I think I saw my first grey hairs when I was about 15. Both of my sisters are younger but have more grey than me....at least they would have more than me.

I started covering the grey a few years ago... luckily I didn't start greying until I was 46. My hair is naturally black with some grey here and there. I have only colored my hair a total of 8 times in past 4 years, but had noticed that my normally ultra thick hair was started to fall out with shampoos., etc. I have not colored my hair for 5 months now, and have discovered that I stopped losing hair in the shower, hair styling, etc. I have switched hair colors over the years, so I dont believe it was the hair color brand... just coloring of any sort was killing the hair foliciles. Now that bites, cause I am not sure I am ready to continue getting more grey....... any thoughts on this, gals? (or guys)

I was born with hair that was refered to as"dish water blonde"
it had no life to it, so for years I highlighted it, but as I got older and it was getting alot of grey it was starting to look more not me....so I went red, I had no red lights in my "real" hair but I do have freckles so when I surprised co-workers at the Xmas party a couple of years ago , needless to say I shocked them all. I'm told all the time how much better it is and the color is great. So I'm not going back
