Despite the fact I couldn't see spending the rest of my life with her, I actually don't wish anythihng bad on my ex. She is, after all the mother of my children.
My son-in-law just called and apparently she has gone to the hospital with a bout of diverticulitis (a gut inflammation). I actually hope she recovers quickly and without any complications.

Now that is a sign of a true, mature adult who can put his differences aside. I wish her well

Just remember that you divorced your wife, not the love you still have for the mother of your children.

A preacher I used to know told us a story once, about a little boy who lived in the country.
Contrary to his parents instructions, one day, for reasons I no longer remember, he was climbing around on the tin roof of the barn. And he slipped. Of course there was nothing to grab onto to stop himself, and as he slid toward the long drop from the barn roof to the corral below, he cried out "God, help me!" And he had no sooner cried for help than a protruding nail from the tin caught in his overalls and prevented his plunge off the roof. After a shaky breath of relief, he glanced skyward and said "Nevermind, God."
The moral of this was that we don't always recognize the answers to our pleas for help from above.
My son-in-law called back to say that after 10 hours in the ER and a CT scan, they decided my ex is not having a bout of diverticulitis, and sent her home with some antibiotics and an appointent with her primary care physician.
However, instead of "Nevermind," to all who offered up good wishes, and even prayers, for a stranger, I would like to say "Thank you."
